They couldn't find my account in Cali so I'd have had to buy a new one and try to be reimbursed later. So I just bought an extended one. Even now I only get maybe a day and a half out of it. I'm always on my phone, emailing, texting, calling browsing etc. I would love to see what the use time vs standby time really is.

DX no haz charging light foo :facepalm: the D1 actually does have a little white led next to the usb port that lights up while charging, DX no haz and the led isn't supposed to light up. But I guess on the GB kernel versions of MIUI and CM7, the notification LED lights up green until you hit 100% :pow:

Well I haven't ran MIUI since like the second or third version for the X so any differences I see you may already have. I know that so far I don't see any bugs. The 10% battery and LED while charging could be considered bugs I guess. LED shuts off at 100% tho.

Does anyone else feel that the new market performs way shittier than the OG one? It seems like its constantly loading and shit. When I first flashed MIUI it had the old market and it seemed so much faster. Now I'm on the new one again and it pisses me off. Yeah it's prettier but fuck.

Oh earlier I connected the phone to my computer via usb and it stopped responding to touch. Put it to sleep with the power button and it wouldn't wake back up. Unplugged it, pulled the battery, and then powered it up again. When it booted, I couldn't unlock it (no touch response). Was scared. Pulled battery again and it booted up just fine and all was back to normal. Hooked it up to the computer again and it behaved like it should. So I dunno wtf happened the first time. :jester:

Oh and on my ride to work I remembered how MIUI isn't car dock friendly. It works but stock MIUI has no car dock app and the music app doesn't rotate. :fp: just installed PlayerPro and will install a car dock app in a sec.

Cam, to edit the carrier image in MIUI:

- Connect phone to computah
- On a mac or linux, open terminal. On a windows box, open command prompt. Go to your android sdk tools folder and run (for mac/linux, add ./ in front of the adb command):

adb pull /system/app/SystemUI.apk
cp SystemUI.apk SystemUI.apk.bak

That pulls your SystemUI.apk to the tools folder and makes a backup just in case. Go to your tools folder in Finder/Explorer. Now on Windows I open it with 7zip, on OSX I'm not sure what to use. You don't want to extract it, you just want to open it and be able to pull out or replace individual files without rezipping the whole thing. I've tried fuckloads of different programs on OSX and can't find a decent one. Once SystemUI.apk is open:

Go into res > drawable-hdpi and find the carrier_logo.png (not carrier_log_trans). Drag that to your desktop or something. Now you can edit that file and add whatever image you want to it. When you're done, make sure you save it as a png again.

If you don't want to edit it yourself, you can also download one from pages like:

Once you have your edited/downloaded new carrier logo, drag it back into your zip program to replace the original.

Then go back to the terminal and run these commands (on mac/linux add ./ before any that start with adb):

adb shell mount -o remount,rw -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
adb push SystemUI.apk /system/app/SystemUI.apk
adb shell mount -o remount,ro -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
adb shell sync
adb shell reboot

And when it boots back up, your carrier image will be different. It only took me a couple minutes to do it the first time I tried it.

Trying to find a decent zip program now and will edit when i'm done.

You can also skip adb by copying it to your sdcard with root explorer, editing it there from your computer, and then replacing it with root explorer. I just find adb easy :shrug:

if u have a theme just put the carrier_logo.png in com.android.systemui\res\drawable-hdpi
and apply it in theme manager
and if u have a custom name on your carrier erase name and leave it in blank

I tried WinZip for Mac, it looked like it would work but didn't actually replace the file I told it to :fp: and every other program I try is just a dumbed down POS that extracts and compresses, that's it.

It really depends on the shape. Take this diamond for instance http://img546.imageshack.us/img546/6048/diamondwht.png I would resize it to be about 25 pixels in height and then place it on a 38x38 canvas. For something with text like this illest logo http://img806.imageshack.us/img806/2507/carrierlogow.png I would probably make it 13 pixels or so in height and make the canvas 38 pixels tall by however long the image is.

wont make a difference either way. MIUI themes are a bitch to open if thats what you are trying. what I do is rename the .mtz to .zip then not using any program I go in and pull out the file I want then rename it to a .zip and go into that folder and pull out what I want.

well im just trying to open this apk to test with and i already renamed it to zip, there just aren't any apps for mac that let you manage the files inside, they all extract everything or compress everything. WinZip for Mac looked good but didn't do shit and it's a Trial version. Zipeg did good at viewing the zip file and pulling files out, but you couldn't add files back into it. POS.

winzip for mac looks great but i found out what its doing, even though i drag the file into the drawable-hdpi folder, it just adds it to the root of the zip :fp: it even recalculates the size of drawable like i added it there but it adds it in the main folder.

then this command does what I want:

That theme is pretty bamf, much cleaner than the one I patched together from the "Online Themes" section of the Theme Manager :roflmao:

And the izip program worked great. (http://www.izip.com/) When you open a zip with it, it mounts it like a drive so you open it on the desktop and drag files in/out.

I renamed the .mtz to zip, mounted it, pulled out the com.android.systemui, added .zip to it, mounted it, dropped the carrier image in, unmounted, removed the .zip from it, dropped it into the mtz, unmounted, renamed it back to mtz, put it in /sdcard/miui/theme and worked like a sharm :high5:

plz disregard previous instructions, this is what you'd do:

- Download a theme that you like (the ones mike posted are pretty nice: )
- Download/install iZip (http://www.izip.com)
- The theme will be a .mtz, rename it to .zip
- Open it with iZip
- Drag com.android.systemui to your desktop
- Add .zip to the end
- Open it in iZip
- Drag your image into the res/drawable-hdpi folder
- Go back to iZip and "eject" com.android.systemui.zip
- Remove the .zip and drag it back into the theme zip
- Go back to iZip and eject the theme
- rename the theme back to .mtz
- put it in the /sdcard/miui/theme folder
- apply it in theme manager

Looks long but super easy and no terminal commands unless stupid OSX refuses to let you take the .zip off of them when you rename them back

Anyone ever used a Sedio case? Specifically the Active X w/ holster? I broke my Otterbox clip again, and I honestly could do with a less bulky case. I love the Otterbox, but it makes such a slim phone so damn huge. Only thing I've found that would even compare is the Sedio Active X, which seems to be similar protection, but slimmer. I can't find one in any stores to check out, and I don't want to order it and end up hating it.

Ever looked at the clear silicone cases that just slide over the phone? I'm telling you man, I've dropped mine while walking and it just bounces. No damage whatsoever. Never seen the need for a bulky case. It makes it easier to hold onto as well since the Fascinate is so thin.

It most likely didn't remove the .zip even though it looked like it did. If you open a terminal and go to the dir with one of those files and type ll command, you'll see it is still .zip but OSX hides it

I have noiticed something about this BAMF rom I'm using.

If you are doing something on the phone (text, surfing, etc) and the screen is on and you get an incoming call, the only option that shows up is to END CALL at the bottom of the screen. Theres no way to answer it!

Icons are easy. Download a set of icons you like to your sdcard. Install ADW, set grid size to something high (mine is 5x7 in the screenshot), install Desktop Visualizer and use it to make shortcuts using the icons you downloaded. Oh and remove labels, dock, etc with ADW settings.

The bertstare is a lil more work but still easy. Download a MIUI theme, open it in 7zip, find com.android.systemui, open it with 7zip. Drop correctly formatted bertstare png into /res/drawable-hdpi folder. Put modified theme file in /sdcard/miui/theme. Apply theme.

Was bored today so I played with MIUI lockscreens. Found a decent Sense one (Modern Sense), removed ugly shortcuts, made statusbar match better, changed the "ring" image, and adjusted it's location a little bit.

So far I'm REALLY happy with the newest builds of MIUI on le DX with the GB kernel. The battery seems to last a really long time and everything is silky smooth. Faster than I remember the Froyo version being. This might be the most I've liked my phone since I got it. :hmm:

surely there is a zip that will update everything to GB, and then you can just flash MIUI.

You can either SBF to .602 or I think there is an All-In-One zip made by P3 that you can flash via Clockwork and end up with the same results. Then you just flash MIUI on top of it. It even includes Extended Settings now so you don't need to flash that. You will have to wipe data and start fresh. You can try restoring apps with Titanium/MyBackup if you want.

Oh and I just read about this battery calibration method:

1) Plug your phone into the charger, let it charge to 100%.
2) Turn it off.
3) Turn it on, and pull the battery out right after you feel the first small vibration during the Motorola logo.
4) Let the phone finish booting. (If this doesn't work, just try again, you probably got the battery pull timing wrong)
5) The battery should show 60% - this is fine. Put the battery back in.
6) Let the phone continue charging until it's at 100% again.
7) Go to the Market and download Battery Calibration by NeMa.
8) Click "Calibrate Battery".
9) Unplug and let it discharge to 0% (and turn off). DO NOT REBOOT OR CHARGE OR ELSE YOU'LL HAVE TO START OVER.
10) Done! Use your phone as normal, now.

Previously I would get it to 100%, run the calibration app, then kill it. I used the above method earlier today and thought it was pretty interesting that even tho the battery hit 100%, if you pulled it out and put it back in, it would show it at around 60% and took it a while to get back up to 100% again. Not sure if it actually charged it anymore fully than the old way I did it, but it felt like it did :jester: FIDIL.

Gary, I want you to do me a favor. Try it on your phone first and see how you like it, then you can try wiffuh's if she'll oblige. I promise this is easy and you can return your phone to 100% stock in a matter of minutes if you want to as well. VZW will never have a clue.


1. First of all save your contact info if you aren't synced to google. Some of your apps may auto-restore but in order to use a backup app you'd need to root, and that's an unneeded step. Just scribble them down so you can re-download.

2. Download this file. It's a the program (ODIN) you'll need to flash the recovery and restore your phone back to stock if you need to. Also make sure you have a data cable. Just unzip it to your desktop for now. http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?73ta726ghelw381

3. Next you'll need the Samsung drivers. Install them. http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?7946i8tdbe0yv50

4. Now the fun begins. You'll need to download a custom recovery for an MTD rom, just put this file on your desktop so you know where it's at. http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=669652&d=1311907538

5. I'm going to recommend you use MIUI at first, mainly because it's easier for the everyday user. Download this and copy it to the SD card from your phone. http://goo-inside.me/miui/fascinatemtd/MIUI.us_fascinatemtd_1.9.16_Eng_Deo_ZipA_Signed_an dmer.zip

6. Also download GAPPS and put it on the SD card. http://goo-inside.me/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip

7. Now the fun begins, turn your phone off, pull out the battery and stop worrying. :crazy: Open ODIN and connect your phone to the PC. Press and hold the Volume-down button until it comes up into download mode. Sit the phone down and leave it alone. The PC should recognize it and install the drivers. One of the boxes in ODIN should turn yellow when it's ready.

8. Find the "PDA" button in ODIN and click on it, browse to your desktop where you save the recovery file you downloaded earlier. Select it.

9. Hit Start and it will flash the new recovery. Should only take a few seconds. Once ODIN says "PASS" in green you can unplug the phone.

10. Put the battery back in, and while holding both the volume UP and volume DOWN keys, press the power button until you see the SAMSUNG splash screen, then let go. It will boot into the recovery you just flashed.

11. Use your volume keys to navigate up and down, find "WIPE DATA" and select it with the power button. Scroll to YES in the next screen and let it do its thing. Then, navigate to "WIPE CACHE" and select it, and let it do its thing. Finally go to ADVANCED, find "WIPE DALVIK" and run that.

12. Now, scroll to INSTALL ZIP FROM SD CARD > CHOOSE ZIP FROM SD CARD and select the MIUI rom you placed on there earlier. Let it install, it should reboot into recovery once and continue the install. Once it's done, go back to INSTALL ZIP FROM SD CARD, CHOOSE ZIP FROM SD CARD and install the GAPPS you put there earlier. From there, choose GO BACK and finally select REBOOT RECOVERY.

13. It will boot into MIUI, where you'll go through the motions of linking your account, downloading apps and whatnot. Play around with it and give it a couple of days to see how you like it.

You may want to install a different kernel as well, since the stock MIUI is very washed out-looking. Download this and place it on your SD card http://androtransfer.com/fascinate/CM7Fascinate-Glitch-DEV-HL-20110922_2048.zip

1. Hold down the power button and select REBOOT, then select RECOVERY. The phone will boot into the correct recovery then. All you have to do is wipe both caches like you did earlier, then select the .zip file you downloaded. It will install and you simply reboot from the recovery as you did earlier.

That kernel is MUCH smoother than stock, and you can adjust the color settings to ZOMFG from "meh" as they are stock. Download the "Voodo Control" app from the market, scroll down to "profiles" and select "voodoo profile v1." Go back, select "screen RBG multipliers." Move the sliders to "350, 350 and 429." Go back, select "screen v1 gamma hack" and set those all to zero. You'll auto-skeet at this time.


Returning to stock is even easier. Literally one step. If you want to try it and have someone talk you through it, just call me. :)

Which place have you been getting your MIUI from? For whatever reason, extended settings and google apps are not included in the versions we've had for the Fascinate. They guy who ports it was involved in getting AOSP working on the phone, so that may be a reason.
