Pretty sure they are different. Thinking about trying to sell my N1 and getting a Captivate. N1's are going for 500+ on eBay.

Have you played with a Captivate? I would before getting rid of teh N1. I've liked the build on all the HTCs I've held/used but not so much with the few samsungs I've played with. Lots of others have been saying the Galaxy S variants are cheap feeling, like creaking plastic and shit. DNW. But if it feels good to you, its Android so it has to be FTW from an OS standpoint!

Will have to do some research on the battery. I have read a ton of threads about them tho and nobody has said anything about a different phones battery being interchangeable. I dunno if I wanna give up my N1 anyways because there is so much support behind it.

That is the main reason I miss my Droid. There was so much of a community behind it. The N1 is the same. I think in time the Galaxy S could be huge because of the whole 110 countries getting it thing lol but time will tell.

The X has been getting a lot of attention, root in less than a week is nice. If it wasn't such a PITA it would probably be unlocked and running Clockwork and maybe some form of CM6 by now. Damn bootloader POS.

Or get a Seidio battery. I know you wanted OEM but I have heard very good things about Seidio batteries. Plus you can order an "extended" one that still fits under the factory cover. It doesn't add a LOT of battery life, but for fitting under the stock cover, any added BL is nice.

Oh and if you move to VZW, don't be afraid of Moto. Their phones are BAMF. The only downside is the bootloader but I'm hoping they'll get past it. They are making some progress I think and once the D2 comes out, even more devs will be on the job. :crossfingers:

Nope, they still go through Verizon like normal calls. You might be able to use Skype or some other app but it wouldn't be your normal phone number. I've never tried it though. :shrug:

Lol I know what you mean. The only thing that sucks is every so often we'd have to redo it. Like the way I originally rooted/rom'd my droid is different than how you'd do it with a new phone. Now you'd downgrade first, then do what I did. The roms available are different, etc. hmmm

True but once all devices get FroYo it wouldn't need to be updated for a while. We can just mke something for people to look back on to double check if they need to wipe or what not. Doesn't necessarily need to be a guide.

Smart Keyboard just switched to some weird mode and don't know how to get it back to normal

I think SKB changes modes when you swipe. I disable all the gestures so it stays on the qwerty.

If its a cling type one just use a piece of tape to peel it up and another piece to get the dirt off. The eBay ones are usually pretty shitty.

The X is an interesting beast. You can root and install things and you can remove stock apps and whatnot. However if you do a factory reset without putting those removed apps back, it will go into a bootloop. It somehow knows when the system has been altered. It is crafty.

Its not a theme. There is an apps called Widget Locker that lets you put Widgets and custom "sliders" on your lockscreen. Its pretty cool.

I used it for a while, its pretty nice. I'll only use it if I can leave the stock Music app installed. Because to do a factory reset on the X at this point, you must have all the stock apps in place or it will brick :rofluhoh:

Yeah with the stock player and stock lockscreen it does. Only while music is playing though. With WidgetLocker and a widget I can start it playing via the lockscreen.

Mike, Beautiful Widgets just updated. It now uses Accuweather so it shouldn't stop updating randomly anymore :pepper:

Damn, this is a nice update. Some things I've noticed so far:

- Uses Accuweather.com
- Forecast now shows 5 days and the "RealFeel" tempterature
- Forecast > Menu now has the "Weather Details" option for more info
- Unlock Animations (shows clouds/rain/snow/etc over the widget right on your homescreen after you unlock the phone. Will keep showing until you tap anything. Tried it out. Kinda cool but could get annoying. (if so, turn it off)
- Completely revamped the settings menu, much more user friendly now.

That's about it so far. I like it.

Great. Seems better than my Droid was. I charge it every night and use the shit out of it during the day and rarely NEED to charge it. Sometimes I throw it on the charger if I'm sitting near it or something but it hasn't died on me yet.

As far as TPU cases, they only have the "Argyle" ones from what I've seen. The pattern is on the inside and isn't that obvious on my smoked case. But if you want non-TPU, there are lots of cases out for it already. Snap on, silicone, etc. I haven't put a screen protector on the beast yet.

It should be $20, not $30 and its limited to 2gb I think. Up to you if you want to try it out. You can always cancel it if you find yourself going over 2gb or not using it much or whatever. Froyo should be here in August at some point, many say early August :D. The phone is fast enough that I have NO want to OC it. The Droid I had to OC but the X is a beast.

I just want my fucking black bar!! Which can be achieved with just root, some people have already done it. The only thing is, there is currently no way to recover from a bricked phone. Screwing up the black bar (framework-res.apk) can cause a brick. So it is too risky right now.

So once they figure out a way to go back to stock, the black bar is completely possible without recovery!

my sprint-nextel rep at work told me that nextel is on the iden network which is different from sprint and is alot slower. my mom has a nextel berry and i have an i9 and the internet is super slow compared to my friends sprint palm pre.

i was thinking about an evo but the other 2 phones i mentioned will be free 90 free

Mike, you haz any kind of task killer running? I had Advanced Task Killer killing shit everytime I shut the screen off. Found out it was killing BW :fp: so I added the service to the ignore list and so far the time is correct.

I didn't want the steinheil crystal just because I hear it scratches easy. The Zagg booth at the mall wants $20 for the face. Pricey but if I replace the phone under warranty/insurance or if it starts to peel, gets scratched/cut, etc they will replace it for free. AND they will apply it for me and guarantee no dust under it, etc.

Only downside is the price and that it has a bit of an "orange peel" feel to it. But it is a lot more scratch and fingerprint resistant.

I dont think it scratches that easy, mines held up good so far. Only very minor scratches that you cant even see unless you tilt the phone to the side and under the right light. I hate the orange peel feel and look that some protectors have.

Nope, they go to the SD card. On the Incredible you can choose to store on SD or internal and when you mount the phone to the computer, it mounts 2 drives. One for the SD card and one for the internal.

But at the same time, my coworker with the Inc said that most apps don't see the internal so it isn't THAT useful. Like he puts his music there and the stock player will see it but most 3rd party apps don't see it and he can't edit tags or move songs while on the phone because file managers and whatnot don't all see that internal partition.

But he sometimes doesn't know what he is doing so he might not be 100% right :roflmao:

Fancy Widget looks nice but I'm over the HTC Sense style clocks for the most part. Not flip clocks in general but the ones that look like HTCs are getting old to me. I decided to put BW away for a while, I'm using "Digital Clock Widget". Nothing fancy but it works and is nice and clean.

I like to have a file manager to move things around, rename files, open files, etc. I like Linda File Manager but Astro is also nice. Both are free in the market.

This may seem weird but I don't know if Android will play midi files, so I hope they aren't THAT old lol. It will play mp3s and SHOULD play wav files and whatnot.

I don't think I've really seen a general noob guide but you can ask us anything if you run into any issues.

One big thing I can tell you is learn to embrace the longpress and the menu button. Both are super useful. If you want to do something and can't figure out how, try pressing menu or longpressing on the thing in question. Longpress is like right clicking on a computer and the menu key is like the File,Edit,etc menu at the top of every window.

Oh and if you want, you can get Tapatalk. It will allow you to read this forum on your phone and reply to threads without having to load the whole site in your browser. It's pretty useful.

There are several websites/blogs that have links to free apps. android-underground.com for example.

When you download an app, it comes in the form of an .apk file. That is pretty much like an "exe" on a windows computer. You put it on your sdcard and then open it using a file manager. It will then ask if you want to install, show you the permissions the app needs, etc just like when you install from the market. The only downside is that apps installed this way won't automatically update via the market, you'll have to go back to these sites and look for an update from time to time.

OH and before you do the above, go into your Settings > Applications and enable "unknown sources". This allows you to install .apk files.

Here is the case I got, same seller even (pawavenue). In the video he says it is "Smoked" but that is the clear case. The smoked one is a lot darker. He is kind of annoying when he says blah blah blah so many times but it is a BAMF case.

I ordered that one too, from the same guy. The picture didn't show it had a huge cutout like that on the bottom of the back so I'm gonna be pissed and complain if it comes like that.

That is what I did and he sent me another one with no questions asked but I ended up liking the "big hole" case much better than the other one. The buttons are easier to press and the headphone hole is nicer. Otherwise they are very similar.

Oh and the "small hole" case is a little lighter in color, you can see the pattern more.
