RIP yayboD1, ours still works, we've had to use it as a spare on a few occassions lol

you can usually find some lower end android phones on CL for cheap. $25-50 depending on age, condition, etc. I picked up a little LG for MIL not long ago. I think it was an Optimus of some sort. Decent little phone for $30.

pick a set of icons you really like, set them up, then get zooper or uccw and start from scratch, make a clock/date that you like and matches your icons, then find a wallpaper that fits with it all

MikeH
02-04-2013, 11:56 PM
I find the widget and then icons.

stonehenge
02-05-2013, 12:00 AM
Well if you FIND a widget then yeah it's probably easier to find matching icons. But if you make your own then its easy to match the color/transparency/etc to an icon set.

MikeH
02-05-2013, 12:05 AM
I usually just steal setups. If I try and put one together I spend like 3 fucking hours and scrapping it all.

I just want a simple lock screen where it is nothing but wallpaper and maybe the time. You can grab anywhere and slide in any direction to unlock. Similar to the stock S3/Note2 lock screen. Widgetlocker won't do it, don't see a magic locker theme that works, minimal lock doesn't hide the navbar buttons, idk what else to try.

stonehenge
02-05-2013, 04:53 PM
Yeah the new OS looks decent. I doubt I'll give it a try any time soon but if it takes off then maybe at some point.

They should have come out with an OS like that a couple years ago. Now BB and MS are fighting for 3rd place and it is a small third place compared to Android/iOS.

JayBo

For real.

Thinking of flashing Slim.
Just dont rly see many advantages b/c I'm too lazy to wipe/restore, etc. Don't feel like fucking w it.

Oh, what is the F Charge option? Fast charge? Doesn't seem to do much, maybe I just haven't noticed

stonehenge
02-05-2013, 05:06 PM
It pulls more power from USB but disables data transfers. By default it pulls a lower amount of power when connected via computer, car charger, etc that when connected to the wall. Fast charge makes it pull the normal amount of power, you just can't copy files back and forth while it's enabled.

You are just unlucky with phones, I've dropped mine HARD several times. Asphalt, carpet, cement, tile, linoleum, etc. it has landed on the corners, face, and back. All with TPU cases (cruzerlite or diztronic). Same with my DX in TPU cases.

For anyone here that plans on using an upgrade or making a new line on any of the main 4 carriers, you might want to sign up for this: https://www-ssl.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=pcat17413&type=page&promoCode=RESERVE2

You get $50 off if you upgrade or get a new line before December 31, 2013. No strings, you just have to get your phone at Best Buy obviously and it is for 2-yr agreements only, no prepaid.. Best Buy usually has phones cheaper than the carriers, then take another $50 and it's a pretty good deal.

Wifey already tired of Fassy's slowness so she'll be using her upgrade in Sept and mine comes around in October. Was thinking of going to GSM prepaid but everyone I talk to has signal issues except VZW peeps. :blah: I guess my next phone won't be a nexus :emo: fgt VZW and it's sexy network coverage.

JayBo

Have been seeing commercials for the straight talk pre pay phones. Kind of crossed my mind.

I was looking at screen, is it possible to just replace the outer glass part that covers the screen? Or just replace screen itself? I'm not scared to take phone apart if parts are available to do such.

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus

stonehenge
02-06-2013, 03:05 PM
From what I've seen, the GNex is pretty easy to take apart and put back together.

The problem is that the part will run you like $130-200 (https://www.google.com/search?q=samsung+i515+display+digitizer#q=samsung+ i515+display+digitizer&hl=en&tbo=d&source=lnms&tbm=shop&sa=X&ei=v2ISUfLeIeyQyQG9nIH4DA&ved=0CAwQ_AUoAA&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&bvm=bv.41934586,d.aWc&fp=ea7d07c2899d3c82&biw=1670&bih=929) depending on where you get it. You could probably find a new phone for that much if you wanted to.

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus

It's because you're replacing the glass AND the display, they are one piece.

I'd just do insurance, it's the cheapest route to get back to where you were. When my wife broke the screen on her Stratosphere, we didn't want to pay $100 insurance since the phone was free and we could get a similar-spec'd fassy used for $40. You can't get a GNex for <$99 so fuck it, call them.

Oh and I didn't replace the Strat screen for the same reason, shit was spensive.

Trying to build my own wallpaper/layout homescreen. Need some input

Messed with UCCW for hours last night and couldn't come up with anything that looked halfway decent or matched everything else.

Upper right hand corner: Thinking of a battery widget of some sort that goes with the simple off white text plus a splash of color animation. As well as phone stats.

Wallpaper/Background: Type of line split describing what's on the screen. Weather, Time, Calender etc....

Been saving a ton of .png of different textures, colors. Let the long stooopid process begin.

i swear I don't see many changes between the diff builds

stonehenge
02-11-2013, 04:45 PM
That's because the changes are usually fairly subtle once they've added everything major (which they already have). Finding changes requires digging through github unless they release a new official build. Luckily they just released build 3 so here is their list of changes:

New features
General UI
UI mode selector – Phone / Phablet / Tablet
Transparency control for all the things!
Dual panel at any DPI
Car Home is back
Lockscreen
Allow timeout / instant lock for Slide
Quick unlock (PIN/password can unlock without pressing enter)
Navigation Bar
Hiding NavBar – if you enable this, NavBar won’t be visible all the time, you can slide up from the bottom of your screen and it comes back!
Recents – GB style
Custom icon tint
Menu UI overflow
Statusbar
LastApp Toggle

Some fixes have been added too, check it out for yourself on our code-review page.

and they added 5 new devices to their list.

---------- Post added at 08:45 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:44 AM ----------

for those of you running dashclock...

do you have a way to unlock the device when clicking the extenions? e.g. i have the daskclock on my lockscreen, click the extension(s), and yet still have to unlock the device. anyway to get around this while still having the dashclock widget on the lockscreen?

stonehenge
02-13-2013, 01:10 PM
If you tap it while the widget is small, it will want you to unlock. If you tap it while the widget is expanded, it will take you wherever it needs to (weather, battery, calendar) without requiring and unlock. I guess you could change the rom control option that makes widgets start out large by default.

Pokémon TV Arrives On Android, Streams A Rotating Selection Of Episodes For Free

http://cdn.androidpolice.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/nexusae0_pokemontiny_thumb.png

http://cdn.androidpolice.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/nexusae0_pokemontv1_thumb.jpg

There's little doubt that Pokémon is the very best at separating parents from money. Like no franchise ever was. Getting Nintendo to relinquish control of content, though, is a real test. It doesn't generally stream its show for free without good cause. Today, however, it's available across the land. The animated series can now be streamed to Android handsets far and wide.

Admittedly Pokémon licensing is something I don't understand, but it's pretty powerful that this app has free episodes inside. It's not the complete series, but it's probably enough Pokémon for you and me. I haven't seen the show since high school, but I knew a reunion was destiny. There are also movies, trailers and Pokémon specials to watch with your best friend. We live in a crazy world and nostalgia is something we must defend. It sucks that you can only watch a certain selection, but at least the show's heart is still true. More episodes will cycle in so don't start worrying, your courage will see you through.

While the franchise has grown to be a monstrosity and one could argue it's become a trite cash grab, it's possible this show still has something to teach me and to teach you.
Pokémon. Gotta watch 'em all.

I did a clean flash plus apps from TiBu, gapps, and kernel. Maybe the kernel is the problem somehow. Before I go back to slim, I'll try another clean flash with the newest build and keep the stock kernel. :hmm:

I've lost data twice though and it seems like it could be related to how it switches between wifi and 3g or something because it happened yesterday when leaving work (where I use wifi) and today when I arrived at work. Might have to go joyriding for lulz later just to see if I lose signal lol

just realized that you can set status bar transparency on Slim so its only when on launcher and lockscreen. Hated it when it was transparent in apps.

but it pulls the background from homescreen when on lockscreen, damn. guess will set to launcher only.

ok figured out my titanium problem. the .zip thing puts a file called .titanium_backup_data_restore in /data/data. from what i can tell this file is used to restore app data after the zip is flashed and rebooted but it doesn't do it on the first reboot it does it on the second and every time after if you cancel it. i renamed it to .bak and it didn't try to restore. the script in the zip is supposed to auto reboot but it never has for me maybe twrp doesn't support that option and that's why it was messing up.

That's how AOKP's transparency works (only on the launcher and lockscreen)

How do you guys like it? Good enough for a DD?

Feature wise it's great. Stability wise I had a few issues with the previous build but now it's running fine. Give it a try  easy to flash something else if it is buggy on the S3.

I just flashed today's build. That other was buggy as hell. Laggy, keyboard kept going away, soft reboots that would cause stuff to not work (ie wireless, data)
so let's see how this one goes.

Will flash today. Seems promising in the xda threads. Minimal bugs.

Jay, that's what happened to me on the Feb-10 AOSKP. After trying the latest one, I haven't had my keyboard disappear, no lag, no soft reboots.

I do have one problem and I had it with Slim also so I think it's an AOSP issue, not rom specific. My music player closes whenever it feels like. It doesn't matter if I'm using PlayerPro, Play Music, CleanMusic, etc, they all do it. Sometimes I'll be listening to it for a while, sometimes it does it a few minutes after I turn my screen off. At first I thought my headphone jack was getting loose and causing it to think I unplugged the cable (my D1 did that) but that isn't the issue because the player closes COMPLETELY, not just pauses.

It almost seems like Android is killing it for memory reasons. Maybe it has something to do with the memory leak that Roman said they found in AOSP that has been fixed in 4.2.2 :chin:

Haven't ran AOKP in forever, but with Roman being back I imagine it will be as good as it was on ICS.
