I could see them still making some cheap ones that don't get updated often and have low specs, I think they make decent money from those.

And I could also see having a few models that they release yearly (GS, Note, and maybe one smaller than the GS but with same specs/quality?) but keep them the same on all carriers/countries and only make those models as flagships, don't go too crazy.

I said major meaning flagship, obviously low end devices dont matter.

Bought an OTG cable for $4 at a local computer place. Plugged in a powered hub, mouse, and keyboard. Works perfectly. This combined with hdmi would be bamf. IDK how you'd connect an OTG cable AND the HDMI adapter though since there's only one USB port.

Do some MHLs have a passthrough? :chin:

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus

http://www.cooldrives.com/lib/cooldrives/pro-dvi-hdmi-usb-video-1.jpg

...good luck with drivers though.

So I had to google OTG cable to find out WTF it is. Neat. Kinda want.

http://www.amazon.com/Electronics-Micro-USB-Host-Cable/dp/B005GGBYJ4
High quality COPPER wiring (not cheap aluminum like other brands, that can be dangerous!)
1. LOL WUT? Who's making electronics cables with aluminum wire? I'd expect steel if anything.
2. LOL WUT? How would 5vdc and 250ma through a manufactured aluminum cable be dangerous? The only danger I know of with aluminum wires is, if you use antique solid aluminum house wire with antique switches/fixtures at 120vac, the terminal on the switch/fixture may not be rated for interfacing with aluminum, potentially overheating and causing a fire in extreme conditions with overloads and other failures.

:jester: :hoofbump:

The OTG cable worked great with the mouse and keyboard. Although when I didn't power the hub, the power was too weak for both keyboard and mouse, could only use one or the other. That's understandable. After powering the hub, I could plug in whatever I wanted.

Coworker is bringing his USB OBD2 thing tomorrow. We tried it with a laptop on my car yesterday and it worked great. Going to try it with the OTG cable and Torque app tomorrow. I'm pretty sure it works from what I have been reading.

i use a bluetooth obdii with torque works good

stonehenge
11-08-2012, 06:46 PM
i was going to do that but read that the chinese ones are hit or miss with a lot of fords. A couple years ago I wouldn't care but since my main vehicular is a Ford, that would make the thing useless :jester:

Since I know his usb one works with my car, I just need to make sure it works with Torque.

stonehenge
11-08-2012, 06:52 PM
its only certain years and certain chinese models. Found people on CV forums that said they worked, others that said they didn't. :fp:

Not sure if its because of variations in the devices, variations in the firmware Ford uses in the PCMs, or user error with some tards reporting the problems.

Don't think its the last because the threads I've read with them NOT working sound like people who have tried everything.

theholycow
11-08-2012, 06:52 PM
Interesting. Was gonna eventually buy el cheapo Chinese BT OBDII dongle, now I want to know which ones do and don't have trouble with Fords (even though I don't currently know anyone with a Ford).

What I really want is one that can pull ABS codes on my 2002 GMC and my wife's 2000 Isuzu. Any thoughts on that? Wouldn't mind also pulling other codes/data that a ScanGauge II can't get.

stonehenge
11-08-2012, 06:54 PM
Also found this: http://www.FORScan.org

Tried it yesterday and it gave us a fuck load more info/sensors (PIDs) than the generic program my coworker had. I forget the name of the program he had though.

chevyrado14
11-08-2012, 06:56 PM
i know mine woks perfectly in my 04 chevy and my cousins 06 gmc. realtime guages are awesome. used it to reset the needles after led swap.

stonehenge
11-08-2012, 06:58 PM
this one seemed to be reporting everything correctly (with the FORScan program and the generic one)

a bluetooth one would be nice since I could charge the phone at the same time but I don't want to get one and have it be useless for me :( so I'll get a USB one if my coworkers works via OTG cable.

Might just stick with VZW. First because I like the network and still hear people complaining here about ATT and TMo. Second because dfw VZW being a GSM carrier. We'll see how that goes though.

chevyrado14
11-08-2012, 10:42 PM
sounds pretty sweet esp since vzw is the only that works worth a damn here. att is getting better but i dont wanna lose unlimited data if i dont have to.

Since I don't tether, I've debated giving up unlimited when my contract is up. I guess it depends if I can find a nice phone at a decent price off contract at the time.

I imagine it will be very similar to a GS3 and they already got into that one and have roms for it.

You'll need to wait for roms and make sure they support the S-Pen before flashing any, but I'm sure it will get enough attention since it's a beast.

You shouldn't have to wipe. You'll need to wipe if you go to 4.2 or 4.2.1 because there are major changes. I wouldn't try any 4.2+ roms yet, wait for something more stable.
Hey Juan what gapps are you using on 4.2?
idk, I've tried a few different ones. The last ones I flashed with AOKP, I got from a random AOKP thread on RW. "AOKP 4.2 is awesome" or something along those lines. Someone in there posted a link to Adam's last build and some gapps. The filename is gapps-jb-20121125-JOP40C-dmd151.zip if that helps. Probably pulled from stock Maguro.
Probably the first time in a while that I haven't wanted a Nexus phone, rather just buy a used phone that's just as nice for cheaper. Think I'm just bored with android all together though.
I still don't see enough change from GNex to N4 to justify an upgrade. If I had a different phone maybe. But I don't like the glass back or lack of 32gb. Otherwise would roll if I could get it as a free upgrade or if my current phone was a POS.

Ok. Flashing again.
Gapps has downloaded too, so as soon as it boots and I can transfer file I'll flash it too

What about radio? Thers not one I need to install since that last one I did is it?

stonehenge

You flashed new radios recently didn't you? There are no new 4.2 radios yet.

Also, get used to the volume up/down and power thing and you won't have to be weary of flashing roms anymore since roms can never fuck up recovery.

I'd flash gapps at the same time as the rom but it shouldn't hurt anything to do it separate. you just won't have gmail, play store, etc and probably won't be asked to sign in at first boot.
