:shake: oh and I recommend all you bastarfs try out Dolphin Browser HD. I never liked Opera Mini or the Fennec (mobile firefox) betas but this browser is awesome. The way it handles tabs and bookmarks and the graphics for all of it are nice. It also has plugins like AdBlock, bookmark backup, etc and themes. Realllly liking it so far.

This is good. Now if we brick it, we just flash the sbf and reroot. :pepper:

Someone already released a black bar (NexTheme) theme for the X. It came out shortly after the sbf lol so I am going to try it. I want to do it now but satellite internet is shit, it is crapping out just because its raining. :blah:

Wow, awesome. The SBF file just restores the shit that can brick you like the framework, stock apps, etc. After I flashed it, it booted up with WidgetLocker and my wallpaper, all my apps, contacts, etc! It doesn't wipe, it just restores the important system files. This is BAMF :roflmao:

Lol ya do not use RootExplorer to replace frameworks. But from teh ashes came the SBF phoenix. :roflmao: worked great. Only thing is you have to activate after using it (*228 option 1).

The icons aren't bothering me, i like them. I hate the high res 3d blue icons that some themes have...

Correct. You could remove it before and nothing would happen but if you needed to do a factory reset then you were fucked because doing a factory reset without all the stock apps in place would cause a bootloop.

This SBF file restores everything that matters for a factory reset and everything that could cause a bootloop. So it restores the stock apps, framework, and i'm sure some other important things. But it leaves your 3rd party apps and settings and whatnot in tact, which is nice.

Well at this point the root exploit was fixed so 2.2 wont be rootable right away. We'll need to wait for someone to root it or for some way to keep root when installing froyo which isn't likely until the recovery happens.

And I'm thinking of going back to my Blackberry Curve unless you guys can help me solve some issues.

1. Facebook. My phone downloaded all my Facebook contacts, so that when I go to text or make a call, I see 200 names that I dont want on my phone. The only way to get around this that I've discovered is to eliminiate Facebook on the phone. I've tried to delete individual names that I don't want but I get a message that says I have to delete them from my Facebook acct.

2. No good way to set the phone to vibrate. On my BB, if it was in the holster, it would vibrate. If it wasn't it would ring. You have to jump through a bunch of hoops to turn the vibrate on and off on this phone and even then it doesn't vibrate for a text.

3. This phone is SLOW. I'm told it's due to the apps but I've only downloaded a handfull and hardly use them. Is there an easy way to see which apps are running and turn them off?

4. I seem to receive text messages between 1-3 times. In other words, if I get a text, it often comes through multiple times. ANNOYING. Plus if I try to delete them, it takes FOREVER. I was showing my friend this and she couldn't believe how slow this phone was.

5. Battery life is abysmal. But you all knew that.

6. Surfing the web. If you go to a website say espn or facebook as examples, it doesn't take you to the full site. You go to some miniversion that doesn't give me the info that I want.

7. Keyboard. Sometimes swype seems to work well, sometimes not. If I text something and a word is wrong, it is very hard to go back to change the word. What I do know is that this keyboard is a PITA compared to a BB.

8. Unless you want to do a lot of multimedia on this phone, it isn't that good. Oddly enough, the phone's biggest weaknesses are as a phone and texting device. There seem to be too many menus to have to go through, the phone is large if you're going to be holding it to your ear to talk, and it isn't as easy to text with as a BB.

Is there any way to solve these problems or should I just go back to my BB?

Not sure wtf this guy is smoking. Battery life on the X is better than my D1 or Eris were, the browser on a Curve sucks dick, the X is faster than either of my Blackberry's and both of my previous Android phones, the keyboard on the X is BAMF because it is so big, etc.

Yeah it's launcherpro with a custom dock image that I found somewhere.

Slimmer but taller. It is a different ratio. Motos are 854x480 and everything else (HTC, Samsung, LG, etc) are 800x480. Not sure why Moto decided to add the extra 54 pixels. I think they wanted the 16:9 ratio like HDTVs have.

As far as resolution, not really. But I like the TFT screens that Moto uses. They tend to be a tad less "vibrant" than the ones HTC uses but I think they are crisper and sharper. Side by side my X looks sharper and clearer than my coworkers Incredible but the colors on his screen are really vivid. Although his oranges seem to be TOO bright.

Either way, they both look good, you only notice the differences when you put them side by side. I love my X's screen. :D

So we should expect similar. Right now on 2.1 my X gets 1225-1300 so its not a HUGE improvement but it is better. Also I have my task killer killing the stock launcher and other shit that I don't use. If they are getting 1458 with the stock launcher and whatnot then it may be more of an improvement than I thought originally. :shrug:

Yeah after some gewgling, I came up with HomePipe and Audiogalaxy. Audiogalaxy I think just reads all your mp3s and then lets you listen to the same songs via the app. I don't think it actually streams YOUR mp3s via wifi. But I don't know that for sure.

use root explorer to go to /system/app and it will list all the .apk files (and mayyybe .odex files). Just rename the stuff you want to get rid of to .bak and it will no longer show up in your app list or run in the background or anything.

Rename, don't delete. JUST in case. Do you have a custom recovery or just root? You may not want to mess around too much if you don't have a way to restore...

Using a hack discovered by the folks who've done all the work on the Milestone, birdman has booted a custom recovery on his handset. The process is labor-intensive and dangerous if you're not prepared to recover from a bricked device (and technically this bricks the device since you can't reboot into Android at this moment), but it's a sucessful proof of concept.

Right now he's working on getting ADB up so we can further investigate what it will take to get a fully functional recovery working (that will also allow reboot back into Android).

From there the focus will move to a more robust recovery and discovery if/how we can do Nandroids and/or write a new /System image (like Froyo). Watch @alldroid and this post for updates.

Birdman has ADB running in his recovery. None of this is packaged or polished yet and can easily brick your device. A bit more research and the basics should be covered and something packaged. I don't want to quote any timelines yet and risk anything, but "soon" you should reap the rewards of his DAYS of work (he's literally eating, sleeping, hacking, I know this for a fact because I'm in communication constantly helping with bits here and there).

BirdRain Toolbox is Born! I'm in the process of packaging up our recovery environment while bird tried to get Froyo running. Sadly we will have to get sleep before we expect to get the recovery environment out. I hope to have an .APK out very shortly (today or tomorrow) which will allow for one click root (from the source this time) and once rooted and busybox is in place (which will also be my build), then you will be presented with the option to install our recovery. This DOES NOT unlock or bypass the bootloader. It works like the Milestone approach, only bird found a method of doing it MUCH sooner (21 binaries I think were skipped) and I packaged it up to work much like a ramdisk so it's very well contained and as a result, much safer (though still not nearly as safe as a custom recovery flash would be). We made a video to demo the recovery, adb access, and proof that /system is our for the taking but it's 1080p, must be edited down for YouTube and I MUST get some sleep finally so it will be cut/uploaded as soon as I'm up. More news as it's available.

Metamorph changes the icons and a few images in some apps. Not many apps are effected. I just checked and it looks like it modifies the alarm clock, gmail, music, settings, and youtube. Most likely they are just icon changes.

The buttons are a pain in the ass to push with this case.

Then you must have the one with the small speakerhole. It sucks because the one with the huge hole has badass buttons and the one with the small speakerhole has shitty buttons. The problem is that the "buttons" on the case are hollow so you need to push in the distance of the "case button" and then the distance it normally takes to press a button.

I need to put something inside the "case buttons" so that they are solid instead of hollow. Know what I mean? Maybe I'll put some pieces of tape in there or something. Its transparent, won't stick to the phone, and a few layers should be thick enough to work.. hmm..

Yeah I got the one with small holes. I'm gonna see if I have any clear silicone laying around to fill the holes. I didn't realize they were hollow.

Yeah thats the issue. I was thinking about silicone but don't want to make a mess LOL I just found some tape and put a few layers (3 or 4) in each button and it made a HUGE difference immfo. Don't overfill them with the silicone either or they may be TOO easy to press or the case may bulge. It did that when I tried to use a piece of that foam like mounting tape a few days ago.
