From what I've seen, it should survive. The test I saw only got the screen to break by throwing it up in the air. All real-world drops just gave it some scratches on the corners, screen was fine and worked 100%.

yeah, I used that on the Note3 but I couldn't get it to reliably show up with the gesture. The swipe across the softkeys on the LGs actually works pretty well.

If I remember right, the Samsung implementation works fine once you actually get it to shrink.

The only real reason I can think of wanting root (and unlock if I need to flash anything to achieve this) is long-press to change tracks, I'll miss that if I can't easily get it working.

Other than that... maybe disabling a little bloat or something but I don't mind LG's bloat and a lot of it can be disabled anyway. This can be done with root, don't need unlock.

i do miss long press to change tracks sometimes. but i use a bluetooth dongle in my truck to listen to my phone and i can just press a button on it to change songs now so it isnt so bad. i hope to get a new radio with bluetooth built in soon and i will be able to use my steering wheel buttons to change then.

I use a dongle ( ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ) in the CV too so I'm fine there, but I also listen to music while at work sometimes, while walking, and when I go to bed. In bed I use an old shitty earbud since I'm likely to roll over and destroy it one of these days. It's nice to reach over in the dark and hold a button down instead of turning the screen on and blinding myself :jester:

Cez, I think the music controls are only on the "awake" version of the 2nd screen. The "screen off" 2nd screen only has time/notifications and toggles. The "awake" one has recently used apps, favorite apps, favorite contacts, music controls, and signature.

Stability and call quality will probably be the same on either one honestly. OEM skins may or may not be your cup of tea but they're usually stable and made to utilize the hardware pretty well.

Just weigh price, free goodies, sd slots, removable batteries, vanilla android, nexus dev scene, etc.

Yea, it's all important stuff to weigh.

The local media storage is nice, but honestly, I don't think I would use more than the 64gb on a 6P. I have an OTG cable and would just need the USB Type C to micro usb adapter.

Developer support is not so much a big factor anymore, since I pretty much want a device to just work. I basically just use a rom/root to get rid of factory bloat. Customization has gone downhill too. Setup Nova, setup KLWP. use device.

The battery not being removable is a buzzkill, but I carry a amp/dac that is also a battery back-up (fiio e18) for those emergency reasons. Per ifixit, it appears battery replacement may be pain, so that may be a downside if I keep the device.

Size-wise is important. A phablet at gym cannot be fun. If the 5X had same tech specs as 6P, that would be a simple answer. For some reason, Google must think that the market for small devices is not there.

Size issue applies to both phones. Also, V10 has 32 bit DAC. Supposed to be nice with lossless audio and nice headphones.

As to size of 6P vs V10, yes that is correct.

If V10 is not in picture, to me (personal preference), I can better handle the 5X size for a daily phone (gym, pocket use, phone in car, etc). Just happens the tech specs of 5X are blah when compared to 6P/V10.

The Phandroid guy who reviewed the 5X said it was sluggish and meh. This was after using a 6P for weeks though so he's comparing. 5X probably has similar or worse specs than tour current phone lol

We went back to TMo and my wife got a Note5. It's nice too and even though it's technically more powerful, I like LGs skin and rear buttons better. Plus sd slot, beast camera, rubber instead of glass, etc. :cheeky:

idk, last night I brought it home half-assed charged from TMo and installed all of my apps and set everything up, not fair to judge it lol

Today I did similar. Redid my homescreen, tried several wallpaper apps to find some with decent QHD stuff, etc. We'll see the normal usage when I go back to work next week. It's the same battery as my G2 but a bigger screen/processor/RAM so it probably won't be amazing but should be ok.

Yep, loved them on my G2 also. You can grab the phone without hitting buttons or hold it as a camera without hitting buttons. Plus you get double tap to wake for when it's on a table or something.

Photos will sync your pics to Google and let you get to pics you have sync'd but not on your phone. Gallery will work better with the camera. Prob leave both.

Installed a few apps, played with camera a bit, hunted through wallpapers, learned a couple fingerprints and played with that, messed with second screen options, did some browsing and Amazon searching, played some simple puzzle games, texted/hangouts a little, idk what else. No calls.

I don't think I'll have much trouble with the battery.

My main use for a device during weekdays:

Leave at 5:15am and don't get back until 6:00-7:00pm. Mainly use it for gmail/email, baconreader/reddit is fun, hangouts, some instagram. Use spotify for 1-2 hours at gym after work. No wifi access through day and my office sucks for service.....like barely get 2g-3g, so device sits there and burns battery searching for service.

Thankfully, I can charge phone, but I am constantly on the go within the plant and sucks not having phone. If something happens (fire/explosion/etc), I may have to shelter in place and would like to let people know my status.

also, that fence was pretty much pitch black, the only light (besides the one in the distance) is a yellow dim light to the right of the phone. It caught a LOT more light than I expected considering how dark it was.

Need to play with it more and learn how to use shutter/ISO better.

nah, I have an invertor in my car so I just plug in whatever extra charger I have. Current one is an old as fuck charger that charges SLOW, I need to put the old G2 charger in there.

I don't use it often but I imagine if you're driving all day for your jerb and using the phone to play games and whatnot between deliveries, you'll need to charge more often.

TMo is doubling high speed data so now I'll have 6gb of high speed before it slows down. Also, Netflix, Hulu, and other video sites don't use up data.

lots of people complaining of scratches on the V10. But royarz has a Note5 and has the same problem. I think Gorilla Glass 4 is easier to scratch than the previous versions. Which is bassackwards.

I've been happy with my pleson tempered glass screen protector from amazon. Just make sure to use the tape hinge method to put it on because you can't adjust it easily after its on

I got a Kindle Fire. This thing is great. Wife wanted one for Christmas, then after I ordered it she went ahead and bought it. I decided that at $35 it was worth keeping. Best Android I've ever had, and it beats my iPad at most of the iPad's own strengths.

I wish I knew about that tape hinge method for screen protectors. I cut mine out of iPad screen protectors from Dollar Tree and I'm happy enough with them, but I do struggle a little with application...

I had no idea USB OTG adapters are so cheap. $0.85 shipped for a plain one, or $1.74 shipped for a 3-pack, or one that has two ports and a power input for $2.42, etc. Gonna use my USB borescope with my new tablet instead of the clunky old netbook.

Get one that allows power. That way you can use device with OTG cable and other USB device while not having to rotate between power and USB OTG. My USB otg is only 1 USB.

Yeah, that's a limitation with the phone or USB standard or something. It can't pull power to the phone and push power out at the same time. I know that there was a custom kernel for the Galaxy Nexus that allowed it though.

I think SlimPort and MHL allow it too on devices that support those.

Good news: Someone figured out root for the new firmware version on my Fire.

Bad news: I botched it and now it is stuck at the boot animation. I still have adb and root so it should be possible to fix, but not until someone helps me figure it out.
