---------- Post added at 03:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:13 PM ----------

holy hell this CM12 is smooth... the animations, keyboard, etc are so fluid. Seems faster than my N7 for some reason. Maybe I just haven't used the N7 enough.

I expected lots of bugginess but so far everything is smooth, no FCs, everything I've tried (handful of apps, calls, SMS, music) has worked. I had ONE reboot while I was restoring apps with Titanium. After the reboot I restored them no problem.

Battery life seems awesome too. We'll see today.

there is a cm12 build up for the nexus 7. flash? or not flash? :chin:

stonehenge
11-21-2014, 06:35 PM
not yet, since the N7 has 5.0 already, there's no point to flashing CM12. It's pretty close to AOSP at this point. Once they add some more goodies it will be worth it.

Unless you're bored, it won't hurt anything :happeh:

Still loving CM12 on my G2. I've had maybe 3 random reboots total in 3 days and the only FC I have is if I go into Settings > Cell Networks > Carrier Settings and I don't even need to use that, I was just looking around.

SMS, MMS, Camera, LTE, GPS, DT2W, etc all seem to work great. I haven't tried NFC or Bluetooth yet.

Battery life is pretty damned good too.

There are plenty of ways to override silent mode for calls from specified contacts but I'm not sure if I've seen a way to do it for a specific app.

stonehenge
01-02-2015, 06:26 PM
I know that the lookout antivirus/security app has a feature where you can go to the website and tell it to sound an alarm and it will do it regardless of silent/vibrate. So its possible, but idk if its available.

Lollipop has priority notifications where he can put his important apps in the priority category so they can get through silent/vibrate.

Nexus 4 running 5.0.2?

---------- Post added at 07:13 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:08 AM ----------

Give this a try:

Just had a similar problem on two Nexus 4's after Lollipop OTA upgrade.

My solution: Take out your SIM card then re-insert and re-start your phone.

Next. Go To: Settings/More/Mobile Networks/Access Point Names (APNs) top right three dots/ Click: Reset to Default.

That seems to have fixed the issue on both Nexus 4's, one using O2 the other using Vodaphone.

Korean G2 officially got Lollipop, hopefully the international version does next because then ROMs should start showing up.

For now, AOSP-based 5.0.2 ROMs have been running great.

coworker just brought this in for me to look at:

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-3QSLTUJ94Bo/VMKKgju2wXI/AAAAAAAAR10/X4Qlr9aPHR8/w491-h873-no/CAM00021.jpg

:datDX:

His son has been using it since he got a new phone years ago. Poor thing refuses to boot up now (stuck at the red M) and it has a few weird dead spots in the LCD. Factory reset and cache clearing hasn't helped, I'm going to try and find an SBF file for it and flash it to see if that helps. If not, then it may be the end for this glorious bastard.

I remember when I got this phone, I thought it was huge and bordering on ridiculously sized. It isn't as big as my G2, let alone the Note 3 :jester: I also remember how thin it felt, now it feels thick.

I had a Droid X...tis was my first Android after getting away from my Blackberry Tour.

Welp, I sold my GNote 2 (and extras) for $180 yesterday. Using the ol' backup Galaxy Nexus. Updated it to Slimkat (4.4 custom ROM), while I figure out what device I want next. Anyone have any suggestions on low-resource launchers for the device?

In the running, I think the GNote 4 and S5 are in the running but debating on waiting. Any opinions, as I have been out of the game for quite sometime...

I had AOSP lollipop before any of their phones got it stock. G3 is starting to get official lollipop and my G2 should get it soon since one version already leaked.

There are also ports of stock G3 ROMs that run great on my G2.

I've been pretty happy with the available ROMs.

Forgot to mention, MB Co has a G3 and loved it last time I heard. He had lollipop on it a little while after it was released.

decided to clean out my "sdcard" (internal storage)

found that Titanium had backed up to two different locations at some point or another, removed the older one. Then found an empty folder called "storage". Deleted that. Checked available space... 18gb

:suspicious:

investigate and allthethings were deleted... I guess that "empty" storage folder somehow deleted everything... luckily G+ backed up all my pics. Nothing else really matters, I just have to copy music all over again.

Hmm...

I am thinking about just buying a VZW CPO device be it, Note 4, S5 or an LG G2/G3.

Juan - how hard was it to root and rom the LG? I am still using a non-dual booted macbook pro so that is definitely a consideration for all the devices.

stonehenge
01-27-2015, 01:28 PM
I honestly can't remember which process I went through but it looks like the latest way to root can be done on any OS:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48709232&postcount=869

And to get recovery after you're rooted, the easiest way is to use AutoRec:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2715496

After that, flash whatever you want from recovery like usual.

According to those links, they support the VZW model of the G2.

Note3 was super easy to root also, but I think the VZW model is a lot tougher.

You really can't go wrong with any of the phones you listed. You can always post "If I buy a VZW [phone name] tomorrow, how easy is it to root and flash a recovery?" on the appropriate subreddit if the XDA threads are hard to follow.

Really contemplating the G3 after seeing price compared to others and how easy it is for root compared to the S5/Note4's lack of root.

M.B Co
02-02-2015, 08:22 PM
I love my G3. Hardware wise its a great device. Should be 2015 proof...compared to other flagships.

Sprint version has removable battery, SD card

Diff. Between vzw and sprint may not be much difference. I'm far from stock so hard to compare. The day root was out I rooted. The day twrp was out I was running aosp

Development is big. Getting bigger everyday.

Root, recovery and plenty of AOSP Lollipop romz and stock LG ROMs avail.

AOSP Lollipop runs great on the G3. Only downfall is the camera....sucks. Potatoe quality

I just checked this. As expected, CAS was an internal-only name. It did provide correct host name and host address; they match the OWA URL, which should be the address to use in Android account settings anyway.

So they really only support a special app? Might not have Outlook Anywhere enabled. Do try asking aboot Outlook desktop app settings at home, which will confirm Outlook Anywhere and the address you need.

Forget "gmail". That's the gmail app for accesing gmail service. It's not going to work, I'm the Exchange admin/general network admin here and I control the policies and I doubt it would work for me. http://apps.systena.co.jp/googleapps/img/appsicon_gmail.png

Do you not have the native Android "email" app? That's the app for accessing generic email services like POP3, IMAP, Exchange, etc. http://www.chip.de/ii/2/2/1/5/4/8/1/2/fa43369378312cc1.jpg

Another angle would be to forget apps entirely. Go to system settings, Accounts & Sync, Add account. Once the account is added, when mail comes in you'll get notifications and can get into it that way.

cao, up until last year sometime that would have been true, but in the newer versions of Gmail and Google Services, Exchange has been integrated. It works just like the Email app as long as you choose "Exchange" when setting it up.

I use the GMail app so that all my accounts are in one place and behave the same. I'd get annoyed because Email/Gmail would have different reply/forward behavior and whatnot.

Also, not sure what the IT guy meant. There is no "blocking Google stuff". Email/Gmail apps on the phone behave just like Thunderbird and any other email client. They should all work.

Overall though, fuck your email IT guys. It's shitty to make you use a specific app.

How hard it be to add new icons?

chevyrado14

not hard at all. if you use a 3rd party launcher you install the icon app and then select the icon theme in the launcher settings

yep, just install Nova, set it as default, install an icon pack you like, then go into settings > look & feel > icon theme and choose the icon pack.

you can also change individual icons on your homescreens by longpressing and choosing Edit, then tap the icon to change it.
