Enterprising folks over at XDA published a Nexus 5 Android L system dump, making it possible to get at least some parts of the L experience on your current device.

Google released factory Android L images for the Nexus 5 and the Nexus 7 (2013)
yesterday, letting developers and enthusiasts get a taste of the L release, due this fall. But not everyone has a Nexus 5 or Nexus 7, and not everyone is willing to use a preview version of Android as a daily driver.

Thanks to the Nexus 5 system dump, you can try out some of the apps, fonts, and wallpapers available on L release on your current device.

One of the apps that’s been fully reworked to take advantage of the new Material Design paradigm is the stock Keyboard app. With a bit of tinkering, you can install it on a rooted device running Android 4.4 or higher. The app was supposedly tested on devices like the Galaxy S5, LG G2, HTC M8 and more. You will need to uninstall Google Keyboard from your device first, and further instructions are available on this XDA thread.

And, from this thread, you can download Play Services 5, other apps, default wallpapers, system fonts (including redesigned Roboto), ringtone and alarms, and the swanky new Android boot animation. Not all packages are flashable, but tinkerers may still find uses for them. Enjoy!

Includes a couple reboots and flashing a quick zip, browsing, playing games, downloading and installing several of those amazon apps. I probably downloaded like 3gb earlier trying to get the larger apps to install lol

idkwtf happened last night but my phone slowly lost battery % even though it was on the charger. Battery stats show that it was charging even though the battery was dropping.

No wakelocks that I can see, the highest app on the battery usage list is a game I played but the hours match up with how long I played so it wasn't running all night. The screen is the highest on the list and it also matches up with my actual usage. No other app is high on the list.

my process this morning:

- Take phone off the charger, see that it's at 5%. dafuk, Assume charger is broked.
- Check the battery stats and see that it actually was charging even though it was losing % all night. Assume it was a wakelock or an app running that sucked up all the battery.
- See no app with a high % of usage and no wakelocks using Wakelock Detector. Fak.
- Realize I need to grab lunch and gtfo for work, so I reboot it and throw it on the OEM charger (charges faster than the one on my nightstand since it's 2A and USB 3.0).
- Grab the phone and go to work.

It's at 26% right now and so far isn't dropping %. I wish it had had more than 5% this morning so I could actually play around and figure out what was using the battery before I rebooted it and lost the chance.

Will keep an eye on this lil bastard, I'm sure it's related to the kernel settings or the latest version of the ROM I'm using.

Ok, so I was thinking and I'm pretty sure my phone was at 26% when I unplugged it to come to work (8am), it was also 26% when I posted a while ago (10am) and it is currently 26% (12pm). Now I know this thing has a big battery but there is obviously some bullshit going on, there is no way it has lost 0% in four hours...

Notice the red area where the battery is dropping slowly even though it's charging. Then I reboot and plug in the good charger this morning for a little while, then I unplug it and it has stayed at 26% since then. It shouldn't have dropped a LOT in that 4hrs since I haven't used it much, but not even 1%? This bitch isn't that efficient lol

Oh and there was a 3 or 4 minute call in there. A call of any length plus 4 hours of idling, a few quick wake ups to swipe away emails (3 accounts syncing), etc should have made me lose at least one percent. WTF is this thing doing. :jester:

Battery had all night drinkathon, he's wasted.

Just read about someone having a similar issue on a toshiba tablet. toshiba told them to pull the battery, leave it out for 10 mins, then put it back in and let it sit for 15, then turn it back on.

That fixed it for them.

Will try it shortly.

I'm actually thinking a battery calibration app (like this one (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration)) would do the jerb. I'm gonna try it before I do the battery pull method, just for the hell of it. When googling, I found lots of people saying they'd have odd battery issues after flashing ROMs and need to use a calibration app (which I think just deletes a log/db file somewhere). I've never calibrated my battery after ROM flashes and been fine but maybe it finally caught up to me. I did flash this rom the night before last.

The stylus is capacitive, I think this is the first time a tablet has come with one without having the wacom technology in the screen. That review says it's better than any other capacitive stylus they've tried though.

Ours sucked ass where I used to work. Servers, desktops, laptops... Everything except the monitors, keyboards and mice. My old XPS (bought one way back in 2003) sucked ass too, it was supposed to be a top of the line Dell PC but I ended up replacing every part in it including the graphics card, memory, hard drive, cpu, power supply, and motherboard before I just eventually junked the entire thing. It was total dog shit, and so was their support.

N7: cheaper, higher resolution, rom takes up less storage than a w8 install, rooting/roms, i love android and have many purchased apps for it
V8P: full windows 8.1, sdcard slot, larger/brighter screen, stylus support, comes with Office, can boot to usb for linux and whatnot

same: thickness, processor speed, ram, storage

both are win, both have great reviews

i sort of have a mini-android tablet in my pocket all the time so i'm leaning towards the Dell :chin:

Was watching a Note 3 vs Nexus 7 video and the dude made a decent point. The N7 is only about 1.3" larger and people tend to hold tablets farther from their face than phones. The N3/N7 have the same screen resolution (for the most part). So realistically, they are almost the same size during real usage :jester:

That one you linked to is the one I almost got. I ended up with the Poetic Slimline. It's similar to the Moko Slim I think but not exactly the same.

If the Poetic annoys me or something, I may pick up that Moko. That one also has a hand strap, which looks nice. And a loop for a stylus if I decide to use one (probably not).

i've been using the Okay Google keyword from the lockscreen regularly lately but this version of Slim I just flashed isn't letting me enable it :pissedfist: must reflash

yeah, it lets me enable it for the homescreens, but not on the lockscreen/everywhere. I've deleted/reinstalled Search/TTS/GNLaucher/PlayServices, reflashed different versions of GAPPS, made sure my language was set to English (US) everywhere, etc. Can't get the options to show up.

If I go into Search or the Launcher Settings > Voice > "Ok Google" Detection, the only option I get is a single checkbox for "From Google Search app". The other options are missing.

I have English (US) speech downloaded, audio history is on, etc. Other people in the ROM thread say it works fine for them, idk what else to try besides wiping and reflashing.

So apparently opening the search app and searching for "Okay Google Everywhere" enables those other options... WTF lol

Tried to use the HKThemeManager module on my phone (since I'm currently running Slim which doesn't have themes) and it isn't that great. It didn't recognize the couple themes I tried and wouldn't "mod and fix" them when I pointed it to them. Gave me errors. :emo:

My dad got me a 32gb Nexus 7 for Christmas 2013...probably have used it like 15 times since getting it. haha.

It's nice, but lots of time I just choose to use my laptop. When I went to Canada for 14 days (1st rotation), I took my N7 only. My 28 day rotations, I take my laptop (when on-site) and N7 (for plane/travel). The device is definitely nice, but just the fact of having the computing power of a regular laptop/keyboard is nice.

The G2s knock-on works on AOSP ROMs and I've flashed a dt2w (double tap to wake) kernel on the N7 to accomplish the same thing. Power buttons pls.

I like the Note3 quite a bit still, even with TouchWiz. Once you remove a few of the more annoying parts (My Magazine...) and freeze/delete a few bloat apps, it really isn't too bad. I ran TouchWiz ROMs pretty often while I had it.

But I definitely like LG's theme and the features they have in their stock ROMs.



Now, onto a different subject: a 5"+ Nexus from Motorola sounds amazing :drool:

If the Motorola really is 5.9" then DAMN that is going to be a huge phone. The GN3 is pretty large as it is, another .2" will make it even larger, even if they remove most of the bezel.

But being a Nexus, it will definitely have an on-screen navbar where the GN3 has physical buttons, that could remove some of the bezel too I suppose. :chin:

I didn't have a problem with the 5.7" Note3 so I doubt a 5.9" would be much different unless the bezels are bigger than they look or the phones thick. The Note3 is fairly thin (not iP6+ thin).

ugh, phone is trashed. Screen/digitizer is broken. For some reason I left my phone in my back pocket while on a motorcycle ride. Had to be bent the right way to crack the screen.

Phone boots and all but no screen. I have yet to decide what carrier or phone to go with since our Sprint contract is up. Not going to spend hundreds on a new phone yet.

Coworker has a Verizon Note II that is softbricked. I rooted it for him and installed Xposed. I think it has something to do with that, I can boot with xposed not running or just install a stock firmware+ root + unlocked. Then see if I can get it activated on Sprint for the time being.

Sprint rep told me if the Verizon Note II is truly unlocked it can be activated.

I'll have it in my hands tomorrow so I'll do my best to have it un-bricked, back to stock, rooted, unlocked and aosp'd by lunch time :happy:

...not even worried aboot that shet. Currently using a Boost phone on R+ just fine and I've used a few Vageen Mobile. I just wonder if I can get droid razr unlocked from VZW to use on Sprunt netverk.

In R+'s contract with Sprunt, they are not allowed to provide service for other MVNOs' phones because the other MVNOs subsidize their phones (hence how I got Kyocera Hydro for $10) and besides, even if they didn't, the other MVNOs want vendor lock-in.

As odd as it sounds I may go with the G2 for my next device. It will be immediately rooted, bootloader unlocked, AOSP 4.4.4 installed.

I tried the Mahdi ROM (4.4.4) and it didn't give me any issues at all, but I actually like a few of the stock LG goodies, especially the much higher quality camera.

According to the FCC filings it won't support Sprint's bands. Unless Tmobile has some crazy deals next month to make me switch. Which is still in my head....even though Tmobile and ATT and Verizon do not have LTE or any good coverage at my house. Sprint is the only one.

Since Motorola and Sprint both came out stating they will not support the Moto X 2014 and the new Nexus 6 is a Motorola. Sprint just a few weeks ago put the Nexus 5 on the EOL (End of Life) aka End of Sale.

Not sure what the future is to hold...not looking good.

I don't really care about that, I never do anything to my phones or tablets, just leave them stock for the most part.

I'll save that for my gaming PC's and other stuff.
