stonehenge
03-22-2013, 04:27 PM
you probably won't even be that jelly of n5, they are fairly incremental updates between them.

Me and MBailey have the older GNex and still love them. The N4 is an improvement but mostly just a faster processor and some ram.

chevyrado14
03-22-2013, 04:27 PM
no it will still be good after the 5 comes out. ive had mine for over a year and i still get the latest android versions. the dev community for nexi is huge.

yeah spec-wise you probably won't be too jelly of the n5 and ROM wise, you DEFINITELY won't be upset in a year. Most ROM peeps build their roms for all the Nexus devices, there are still active roms for the old ass Nexus S and shit AFAIK.

Definitely feels larger than a GNex. It's hard to explain. I think it's the flat surfaces and rigidity that give that impression. Compared to le Fassy or the Gnex' I've messed with this thing is as solid as can be. No creaking plastic or anything.

There are some data drop issues with custom ROMs and T-Mobile, but it's not a deal breaker. Even if you're just using the stock ROM, flash Faux's "enhanced" stock kernel so you can adjust the colors. The screen looks terrible out of the box.

SarkOzy
03-22-2013, 10:47 PM
I don't want to have to tweak it, that's why I didn't really bother. None of the kernels make a difference in performance anyway. I messed around with the governors but between ondemand, intellidemand and interactive they all acted up. Luck of the production draw I suppose.

stock navbar height is ridiculous. way too big.

SarkOzy
03-23-2013, 07:13 PM
Na, no themes or anything. I use cLock for the lock screen.

Mike, I tried a slightly smaller nav bar with AOKP but never really got used to it. I pretty much only use my thumb to navigate the screen so the extra bit of stretch going from the status bar to a smaller nav bar was uncomfortable. I don't like having to shuffle the phone in my hand so I just keep it stock height.

You can actually add letters to the end of an imgur URL to change the size.

If the URL ends in XXXXXXX.jpg, you can change it to XXXXXXXh.jpg for high, XXXXXXXm.jpg for medium, XXXXXXXs.jpg for small, etc. There is also XXXXXXXl.jpg and XXXXXXXt.jpg I think.

Something like that anyway lol

Would I be better off just spending the couple dollars for the taptalk app? Does that do the uploading and resizing of pics?

stonehenge
03-24-2013, 06:11 PM
it attaches them to the thread, which makes them kinda shitty quality sometimes. I'd stick with either:

1. upload to imgur, paste url, add letter to end of url to make it smaller
2. resize pic with a pic resizing app, upload to imgur, paste url

It's just the new IP scheme. LTE is all IPv6 but T-Mobile has it for their entire HSPA network too. Seems to provide lower latency as well. I still leave it set to the old IPv4 for roaming though.

Just unlock the bootloader right away like I said because it wipes EVERYTHING. Unless you don't care about root or ROMs then you can just roll stock and not unlock.

no toolkit so youll have to install adb and do everything manually http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1917237

---------- Post added at 06:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:57 PM ----------

then follow this http://www.androidrootz.com/2012/11/how-to-root-nexus-4-on-mac.html

use TWRP instead of CWM though. and if you want to install a ROM then you can skip the rooting part.

oh and update to 4.2.2 first if your phone isnt already on it.

Cez★
03-27-2013, 01:11 AM
so set up ADB then download that twrp?

MikeH
03-27-2013, 01:16 AM
setup adb then follow the next guide to unlock and flash recovery.

---------- Post added at 06:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:12 PM ----------

when it gets to the recovery part replace this line ./fastboot-mac flash recovery recovery-clockwork-6.0.1.9-mako.img with ./fastboot-mac flash recovery WhatTheTwrpFileIsNamed.img

---------- Post added at 06:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:13 PM ----------

if you are gonna stay stock though then flash this in recovery before rebooting your phone http://www.mediafire.com/?78fkhdh5icz3zdg it stops the phone from reverting to stock recovery. Then flash SuperSU so can haz root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053

It's a Nexus thing unless something just changed. Recovery always reverts back to stock on reboot.

Cez★
03-27-2013, 01:23 AM
whats it mean by?

When they finish downloading, go into the platform-tools folder inside your android folder, then copy adb and fastboot and paste them into the root of your android folder

MikeH
03-27-2013, 01:27 AM
you can skip that. just cd to android/platform-tools

SarkOzy
03-27-2013, 01:27 AM

If I force it to boot into cwm from fastboot it won't stick, but if I actually flash it then it'll always stick for me.
