Since CM converted you to yaffs/ext4 then you wont be able to flash over. Theres no way in hell Sammy switched to ext4.

I think I'm just going to stick to cm. I've read FIVE different how tos and I'm so confused I don't even want to bother with the Odin process now. I get most of it, but when they get into flashing recoveries and the different types, I just get lost. Like REALLY lost. I'd like to go back to a stock rom at some point so I could try a ComRom version of the new gb leak.

What confuses me is no how to is the same. One person says a one click root method works, then another says you have to do twenty steps in recovery and terminal emulator.

Fuck it, going to try tomorrow on my lunch break. I'll bring my Eris incase the Fascinate melts and I need a spare. I had no problems rooting and debloating my Eris until I went to CM. If I can just get the damn thing to boot up after attempting this I'll call it a win.

Odin makes life soooo easy. The only way to fuck it up is to hit Phone.... DO NOT HIT PHONE. Even if someone put a gun to your head... take the bullet. At least you'd have a working Fascinate in the afterlife.

yes and no.. since you are comparing the same phone in both it might be a decent comparison. But in general dont put too much weight on Quadrant scores. With a couple simple tweaks you can make your phone report crazy scores without it performing any better. :pow:

The phone came out after a stable was released so instead of wasting time on an older build they went forward. Thats why a stable is taking so long. I would just try a nightly, can always go back.

I'm glad I went ahead and went through the paces (and fucked the phone up) BEFORE all the horror stories of SD cards being erased and phones not booting up came to light. There's nothing wrong with any of it, there's just so much confusion about it that it's causing people to do stupid things and mess up their phones.

There was a lot of confusion in the thread about the proper sequence of install, and one guy came in and made a shitshow over "learn it yourself" and trashed the OP for helping too much and such BS as that. Yes, it is a DEVELOPERS forum, but why is it someone else's business how one person manages the ROM they create? There wasn't any begging, etc.

I know the guy doesn't speak for the entire dev team that creates ROMs and such, but that was a dick move.

New CM7 nightly apparently improves battery life, fixes auto brightness, and includes the gps, location, CRT, and ERI banner fixes so I don't have to apply them all separately.

Only things still broked are camera/camcorder (there is a camera fix that works for now) and video playback.

You should really just go to the "NamelessV4.1" rom that's out. It's by far and away more functional and faster than CM7 in it's current state. Has a different feel to it than the comrom stuff as well, and it includes the shutdown menus. My battery life has been outrageously good as well.

Just make sure you flash the EC09 leak in Odin first. People that don't are getting erased SD cards, massive FC issues, etc.

I haven't had ANY problems using that method, jsyk. There are directions in the OP for the ROM, but I paid them no attention. The directions for getting root and CWM are much better in the EC09 Leak Thread.

Couple of quick things, I really like the 5 signal bars. :rofl2: There's a statusbar notification telling you to unplug the battery when it charges to 100% (kinda annoying), everything works though. Can't find the post now but there is documented increase in data transfer with EC09 modem. I suggest installing launcherpro ASAP after you boot it up. GoLauncher is SLOWWWWWWWW. The only real bug is sometimes you'll get a FC when trying to download with the stock browser, but I use Opera and it works fine. The gallery is laggy also until it builds a thumbnail cache.

I prefer it over CM, to be quite honest. And that's saying something. CM is great, but even if it were fully functioning I'd still use this. Just seems more "polished."




I used this root app and CWM recovery after flashing the Odin for the full EC09, and it worked perfectly. Do this instead of the instructions listed in the NamelessV4.1 thread, people have been royally screwing up phones with that method for whatever reason.

I've heard EC09 had better reception. I'm hoping it's true because mine has been bringing the suck since FroYo broke it.

I don't wanna sound ungrateful or anything, but could you please put a disclaimer on your OP letting people know that there is a risk of your SD card failing. It's been reported by a lot of people including myself, and I just had to buy a new SD card for my phone cause nothing is fixing it and I don't think it's fair to others that don't see that SD card failure is possible.

Also, is there a way to flash a new rom without the SD card? Or will I have to risk destroying another SD card when I try to flash a new rom?

I'm confused because I've done all the things people have said might be causing the corruption. IE - getting the download FC from the browser. (i just deleted it anyway and went to opera, where downloads work) Looking at log cats I don't see anything obvious that might be a trigger. So IDK.

Just trying to think of anything firmware related that might cause it. The dude I've been going back and forth with has a fairly different setup than I do. ( he has ADW, auto-rotate enabled, etc) So I don't think it's any of that. We both used the same "CWM-ALL" recovery though.

Brilliant idea. I just found a little 6" long 2.0 USB to Micro USB "dongle" that I had in a junk drawer so I'm at least able to flash stuff for now. I always forget about monoprice... one of the best sites ever.

Kinda. There is a "monster zip" that you can flash over any rom and you'll be good to go. Then flash a nightly over it to get the GPS/location fixes.

But once you're on CM4DX, DO NOT use bootstrap or you'll have to sbf your phone. You now get to recovery with Rom Manager or by holding power and choosing reboot > recovery.

Oh and fyi the things that still don't work are camcorder (camera works) and video playback (YouTube and Netflix work tho).

So if you want to try it out then first flash the monster zip using the instructions towards the bottom of this post:

Then you can flash nightlies whenever you want without wiping or anything. Some people wipe cache/davlik but it isn't necessary. You may need to flash the cam/mms fix after you flash any nightlies though, until they are fixed in the actual rom.

I didn't repartition the phone's memory when I went from CM7 to the Gingerbread leak, and although I haven't had any problems, I should probably do it. Soooooo I'm downloading the .pit file for that, as well as the stock Froyo file for ODIN. Sometime later I'll go through that ordeal, then let the phone OTA update itself to ED04. (I'm still using the GB EC09 leaked radio, it's fast as hell but screwy at times) Then I'll ODIN CWM, and flash back to CM7, then restore my nandroid. Sound like a plan? Good.

My battery life has been pretty good :imo

I don't pay too much attention to battery life but I haven't noticing it dying any earlier than when I was on GB Blur :shrug:

I won't be going back to Blur. I'd try MIUI or some CM7 based roms just for fun but I don't see myself running anything other than CM7 anytime soon. Runs great.
