ICS = Ice Cream Sandwich = Android 4.0. Right now you're on Gingerbread on the DX, which is Android 2.3. Honeycomb was 3.0 and never made it to phone. ICS is the latest and officially only available on the GNex so far. But OEMs are updating their shit to ICS and many will get updates in the next few months I think. DX won't be updated though.

I don't think it's as much an issue about single core phones as it is a RAM issue from what I've read. Le Fassy only has 512mb but never runs out of memory with CM9 or AOKP. Android OS really does a good job of memory management. It has a really beast GPU for an older phone though.

From what I'm reading, the Razr ICS roms have broken front camera and/or camcorder. If your not rooted, you'll need to do that first (here (http://rootzwiki.com/topic/9325-how-to-root-the-droid-razr-or-razr-maxx/)).

Here are the two ICS roms I saw first: Gummy 0.8.3 (http://rootzwiki.com/topic/20739-aosp-403-gummy-083/) and AXI0M (http://rootzwiki.com/topic/18838-aokp-axi0m-r-kang-403-2242012/)

But none of us here have Razrs so no promises on how well it performs, I'd read through the threads before flashing anything.

i think its gonna work. at first it didnt turn it on. i went in and turned it on manually then used the widget to turn it off and that worked so i used the widget to turn it back on and it worked.

Spanish dude doesn't explain very well but I'm pretty sure he is just adding blue/black where it currently isn't. Just noticed the reboot menu is black instead of gray, the gradient background is gone, and the checked off pattern behind the toggles is gone. Looks moar cleanz.

App data is what I'm referring to. AOSP on Galaxy S phones uses a YAFFS/MTD filesystem instead of stock RFS. Each time a rom is flashed it checks for that, and notes an offset change do restoring any data can range from an okay experience to completely fucked.

That means you installed an app that is pushing those ads to your phone. Look thru your most recent apps and find the shadiest looking one and uninstall it, see if they stop.

That or I think there is an app that will tell you which one is doing it.

The ads are called AirPush btw and they are pure fgtry.

Oh and the latest update to the "Play Store" makes it easier to see the most recent apps you've installed. Go to the store, hit menu, my apps, then swipe to the left so you see the "ALL" list. Those SHOULD be in order with the most recently installed at the top.

reflashing the gapps worked. it booted back up and told me i had an update for root explorer so i tried to download it and kept coming back with error 403. so i went and cleared app cache same thing. so i went adn wiped cache and dalvik. when it was rebooting after that i remember i never bought root explorer i side loaded it. i wonder why it found an update for an app i never purchased from the store?

That's normal behavior. The old old market didn't do it but mine has done it for a long time. Right now mine shows PlayerPro and it used to show some other games that I got from Amazon and whatnot. Now it's only showing PlayerPro for some reason.

nah, I don't really like autobrightness, it always pisses me off at some point no matter how I set it up. I usually just keep it at 100% since I surprisingly get good battery life like that. If it's dark, the toggle slider makes it easy to drop it down :shrug:

I have it set like I did on CM. minimum brightness of 35 and increasing each by 25 and leave the last one on Max. Auto brightness is a huge plus. I can't stand adjusting the brightness 50 times a day.

In regards to the article, I agree. After rooting my Stepdad's DInc2, he was more confused by it than originally starting out. The reason I now have the device due to his idea of "freezing touchscreen and unable to use." Thus, he went and got an iPhone 4s, which led me to giving my opinion of....iPhones are smartphones for dumbasses (especially iPhones that are not jailbroken.)

In the list of things I have going on in my life, rooting a phone is at the lowest priority. I have enough other stuff going on that I dont want to research and learn how to do that. Is just having a phone that works like it should from the factory and that won't reboot, freeze, lag or just be an overall POS to much to ask? You say the iPhone is for dumbasses, well I beg to differ. From what I have seen it is a phone that functions out of the box. My wifes iPhone has been flawless since she got it and she has had no issues and even laments about the longer battery life compared to the Droid.

Part of me wishes that Moto, Sammy, and HTC would do an apple-like phone refresh thing. They could have a high end, low end, keyboard, and big screen model or something but if they had a whole year to prepare each "set" of phones, they would be way more reliable.

Instead, they pump out phones fast as fuck and probably skimp on le testing.

Apple has one phone and it updates once a year, they can focus more on making it work 100%. The OS is definitely more dumbed down but as far as it being a ratard phone, I won't agree. Peeps like it because it is easy to learn and it just works.

He gave it to me, I turned it on, and it booted right up. I saved all his data: pictures, media, etc; and then wiped the device. I put some version on MIUI on it and it booted up again. The device is currently at my apartment, not activated or anything. My schedule is swamped the next 2-3 weeks, so messing with a new phone is not on my list to do. :imo

They are just MIUI themes. You can use any that you had on your DX or you can download MIUI themes from XDA/RW and put them on your sdcard. You can even download full themes, it will just pull the lockscreen from them afaik.

Don't have an android or even smart phone for that matter. (don't laugh assholes) Girlfriend just got sammy Galaxy IIS.

Does the internet browser always have to stay open in the background or is there a way to close it? if it's on a page running javascript will it continually update and burn data?

Word, it won't do shit in the background. It may seem like it since it will reopen what you previously had open but it isn't running the whole time. Even if it did, Android kills things when they stay open for a long time without being used, it's pretty good at managing memory and whatnot.

Gives an OEM look. It's fantastic to me. Custom ROMs don't have to be über nerdy or crazy. With CM becoming more commercially-oriented I can see others following that example.
