during initial setup there was an option to backup data to Google Drive. Settings, app data, etc. :chin: wonder if that will actually make Titanium unnecessary or if it's only grabbing a few things.

It asked me first if I had another device that I wanted to use to set this one up. I think that's the nfc bump thing.

Then it asked if I wanted to start fresh or restore from a backup, it had N7 and G2 backups listed to choose from. We'll see but I doubt it's restoring any data. Maybe it will once I get some Marshmallow backups, idk.

That V10 looks huge!!! I think the s5 is a good size. To me, the whole cell phone size thing makes me lulz. Cell phones started as bag phones in car, slowly transitioned to small devices, and now the size/screens are going back up in size.

Thats because N6 is ginormous.

The V10 may not have the true dev support due to the 2nd screen, but only time will tell. Although, SD card and removable battery are definite perks.

The G4 doesn't have much devness going on so the V10 probably won't either. I'm trading that for rugged build, awesome camera, lota of internal storage and ram.

Cam you gotta get 6.0 running then flash twrp recovery and then flash that kernel for 6.0 and you can flash su for root. That's the only way to get root on marshmallow

ElementalX DT2W is ftw. It's nice that it disables it when your case is closed too, so the battery doesn't get sucked up.

btw, I took my N7 off the charger yesterday around 4:00pm (100% battery), opened it just now (11:00am) and it is 95%. So 5% in 19 hours... .25ish% per hour. Says it should last 13 more days if I keep it sleeping like this. Seems decent to me.

New one is sexy. Setup a few SP3's at work. They're nice but at the same time idk if I'd want one. Solid build quality, high res screen, pen is nice, but kinda awkward because so damned heavy for a tablet and with full Windows I kept wanting a real keyboard.

But with that said, having full Windows in something that portable (with an i7!) is pretty damned sweet.

If you're stock right now, just accept alltheOTAs. Will take a while but its simple.

If you're rooted, on a rom, or feel like playing:

- flash stock 6.0 image (Mike posted link)
- flash TWRP
- flash ElementalX kernel (make sure its 6.0 version)
- flash SuperSU

The TWRP/kernel/SuperSU only matter if you want to root and/or flash ROMs.

Saw a tweet saying the V10 gets around 4.5hrs SOT. Dude said meh. That doesnt sound bad for a 5.7" QHD. I think thats on par with my G2 and its 5.2" 1080p with less ram and weaker processor. :shrug:

Got 6.0 flashed to Nexus 7 last night via nexus toolkit. Ran into boot loop issues after trying to root using TWRP, installing superuser, etc.

This was at like 10:30pm PST...ended up saying screw it and went to bed considering I get up at 4:50am everyday. Hahhaha.

Also, just so you know, it takes a LONG time to boot the first time (Lollipop and Marshmallow)

The factory flash comes through okay. Figured I could let device charge all day and then try tonight. I can get factory unrooted 6.0 to show up no problem. Do you guys experience a shorter boot time after running 6.0 for a while?

The long boot loop really shows up after installing SuperSU and root files.

what root files?

After flashing the stock 6.0 image, try letting it boot up. Might as well sign into your gmail account and whatnot, maybe even let it install all your apps if you chose to do so. Now you have stock 6.0.

Then shut it off, boot into the bootloader, and flash twrp (fastboot flash recovery twrp-whatever.img). Now you have stock 6.0 with a custom recovery.

Then go into twrp and flash ElementalX for 6.0. Now you have stock 6.0 with a custom kernel that will allow you to root.

Flash SuperSU 2.50 zip via twrp. Now you're rooted.

Nexus 7 would boot into 6.0. Extended boot loop would occur after pushing supersu, perm recovery through nexus toolkit.

I will try flashing through TWRP later tonight. Just need to download the files of supersu, as I already have elementalx downloaded.

That's what I did with Cez's G2X but with TMo's LTE expansion, I'd recommend getting something with LTE.

Mike can just throw the SIM in his Pure to test. Idk what Cam would use. Maybe find an old Nexus4 or something. Buy Cez's after he gets a V10 lol

There are some blogs out there who did the breakdown when they first announced subsidized phones. Sometimes just cheaper to go as is due to the $20ish access fee for smartphones.

S5 is microSIM. The 2015 moto pure, nexus 6p and newer iPhones are nanoSIM. They have kits to cut down micros to nanos on amazon prime for $8ish or you can go to vzw corp stores to potentially get one free. Another option is to cut it down yourself....videos on youtube iirc

your sim may or may not work, depends on which phone you get and what size sim it needs. VZW should give you a free one though without changing plans at all, just go into the store and tell them your new phone needs a different size, don't let them bs you.

Try reseating the SIM first. If it keeps causing trouble, I'd wipe it completely.

Back up anything that matters, grab the latest image Google has and flash it. That way you start fresh. It will be stock unrooted but should eliminate any software issues.

Folks - I am thinking about purchasing a new device on VZW using my upgrade via the bestbuy method to lock-in the unlimited pricing before it goes up an additional $20/month. That brings up that the device will simply be sold afterwards, as I am probably wanting to get a new nexus. Thus, what devices currently offered by Best Buy would be worth a quick sale and turnaround?

The cell sevice (4g/lte; vzw) in my building/workplace is basically non-existent. I can get 3g just fine.
What can I do to eliminate the phone from trying constantly search for 4g status? Any applications I can use, etc?

Ultimately, the goal would be to use tasker to setup profile using GPS location (work) to set network as CDMA only. Everywhere else would allow for CDMA/LTE.

How familiar are you guys with tasker?

Just replaced my wallpaper with klwp and trying to setup notifcation system using tasker.

Trying to make a variable return nothing when my gmail application has been opened. System requires me to input something (e.g. have it return a 0), but I don't want anything to come back.

In theory, KLWP is supposed to be less battery intensive than Widgets. Trying it out to see if thats true.

KLWP is nice if you have time to set it up right....which can take a while....otherwise just use a preset aand build off that.

In reality though, people still use Nova as the launcher. The gesture controls and similar are controlled by Nova and then the wallpaper shortcuts/widgets (persay) are all controlled by KLWP.

Mine is this way. KLWP as wallpaper and Nova Prime as the drawer/launcher.

Well from the drop tests and whatnot I've seen, it's a beast. But I still don't want it looking beat to shit after some drops lol. Would rather replace a $10 case.

But phone looks seks, maybe I'll just get a clear TPU.

not much going on, but I've been running an LG-based ROM for months, it runs so much better than any of the AOSP stuff out. The camera works better, there aren't any random reboots, battery life is better, etc.

I like tinkering with phones, yet have gotten busy with other stuff, that I prefer just to have something that works. To me it seems, the pure devices are the balance of being able to tinker while still having the ability to not screw them up too utterly bad....but outsides of the pure devices you are probably going to have a tradeoff (lack of SD card, battery, etc).

If TMo was carrying the 6P, it'd be a no-brainer, but I can't swing paying retail for it and don't want a second payment each month to Huawei or something.

The V10 will have a lower (but cooler running) processor and smaller battery but more RAM, 64gb internal standard, sd slot, removable battery, and some nice camera stuff (6P camera is looking nice too though).

I'll miss out on stock android but I don't really have a choice unless I want a Nexus 6, which I don't really want. Plus, getting it via TMo is ridiculously overpriced, especially for a "pre-owned" model.

Samsung and Xiaomi are planning on having pressure-sensitive touch screens soon.
