coworker accidentally accepted OTA update on DX

in order to get root back, I'm gonna have to:

- SBF to older Milestone X build
- Root that w/ ZergRush
- Flash a DX rom to get back to VZW softwarez

Since he insists on having the stock hotspot (hacked, he's not paying but doesn't want to use the wifi hotspot app...), I have to flash a modified version of stock blur. :blahclap:

MikeH

stonehenge

:roflmao: well he didn't accept it, he has been ignoring it. He removed the upgrader.apk that moto uses but it still was prompting him. I was going to take a look at it and get the notifications to stop but over the weekend he let his son play a game and the kid accepted the update. By the time he noticed, it was already in recovery installing.

Tis a lil kid, foo didn't know what he was doing, probably thought it said "wanna play game? yes or no?" :jester:

Yeah gotta get everything figured out again. Not sure the best way to go from GB to ICS is or whatever its running to ICS.

Pretty simple.

1) Make sure you're on the EH03 baseband - http://www.imnuts.org/downloads/fascinate/odin/CI500_VZW_EH03_GB_CM.tar.md5
3) Push CWM4 with ODIN - http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=669652&d=1311907538
2) Download and flash this - http://www.enderszone.com/ics/teamhacksung-ota-eng.BUILD2.zip (you can't flash straight to AOKP or CM9 without flashing that "build 2" first to partition the phone. Dunno why)
3) Wipe data and flash AOKP + GAPPS. http://goo.im/devs/aokp/fascinatemtd

AOKP comes with the Glitch kernel now (use the official AOKP rom, not the "Glitched Up" version) and I've found the Conservative governor with 200-1200 clock speed is best. LiveOC just wastes battery and makes the phone hot.

MikeH
04-23-2012, 06:12 PM
whats different between glitched up and non then?

SarkOzy
04-23-2012, 06:16 PM
They included a few bullshit apps here and there for no apparent reason, and random shit like a weird boot animation and startup sounds.

The official AOKP builds after 32 have the same RAM tweaks as the glitched up version.

MikeH
04-23-2012, 06:17 PM

I ran AOKP on le GNex because it had certain things that I preferred but those things dont really apply to the fassy. Unless Gummy is still doing builds, then maybe run it.

the glitch kernel is posted separately?

SarkOzy
04-23-2012, 06:27 PM
Yes, it's separate. BUT it's incluced with the official AOKP builds as of Build 32 and I think the latest Gummy has it as well. Also those CM9 kangs have the glitch kernel.

Only Sbrissen's "Build 8" (he's the CM maintainer after JT jumped ship with the teamhacksung fiasco) has the "stock" CM kernel.

Well there really isn't much difference between the Bionic and the Razr except for a little different design and slightly better screen. The GNex would give you a 720p screen, ICS, and plenty of rom/theme options if you choose to go that route.

Yeah, the GNex is the only phone that would give him any sort of real change since it has vanillas ICS and a higher res screen. The Bionic isn't old enough that current phones are THAT much more advanced. If he HAS to update then the GNex is probably the best phone but with his history of randomness (which seems to get worse when he roots) I'm not sure if the GNex is the right fit. :jester:

First of all you need NSTools. It's in the market. I've played around with every governor and Conservative is the smoothest by far. I leave the scheduler at "Deadline." Don't worry about undervolting.

First page in NSTools, make sure the LED timeouts are maxed so the BLN works, or not if you don't want it. Fast charge works the same as it did on the Nexus.

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g194/06cs/Screenshot_2012-04-23-13-38-33.png

Like I said, Conservative governor is best. Set your minimum voltage to 200MHz since 100MHz makes the GPU run at half speed and hurts idle battery use. I don't use the LiveOC system since it caused so much battery drain for me. Deep idle can cause instability if you use it, but can save a little battery. I don't mess with the extra settings at the bottom.

SarkOzy

But I haz unlimited data and text. TMobile has a $30 monthly 4G plan that I'd jump all over if they had any damn coverage. 5GB of data unthrottled and unlimited text with 400 minutes of talk time. That's what you need to be on since you already have a GSM phone.

Yea, hopefully. If it doesn't work then you could just flash the regular theme and turn off the nav bar. IIRC it's turned "on" by default but doesn't show up in AOKP. I always enable the power-button menu option to display nav bar settings and manually un-tick it there too. Probably doesn't make a difference but it makes me feel better. LOL

I'm jk anyway, if I had to buy a cheap phone right now, I'd definitely try to get a Fassy. You guys know how many times I almost got rid of the DX for one...

Trying to get coworkers DX from the newest .621 build to something else is ridiculous. His only options are to stick with .621 (no root available) or what we ended up doing was flash a Milestone X SBF, then root that, then flash a modified version of VZW .605 on top of it. But wifi doesn't work now unless he assigns a static IP every time he switches to a different wifi hotspot. POS BOOTLOADER FGTRY

Wan, Bryant wants to tether his phone but there are only 2 ways to do it. Either flash him back to a Froyo RUU and enable it via APN (and hope ATT doesn't notice) or flash a custom ROM.

I really don't want to chance bricking it by attempting to flash back to Froyo, so I'm trying to steer him into a custom ROM. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964841

Downloading all the stuff to deal with Bryant's phone this Saturday. He's on 2.3.3 so I shouldn't have to downgrade it and lose his data before getting it backed up.

One thing I don't quite understand is most of the ROMs in the development section say you must have the "EXT4 Touch Recovery" installed yet the Hack kit installs CWM........I did see a jootube video of a ROM being flashed from CWM and installing the EXT4 so I guess it'll be okay.

Bryant knows this could fail and brick his phone yet he still wants to do it, so I guess we're going to try. :rofl2: It "should" be okay, but there's apparently a pretty decent failure rate. Hopefully all goes well.

If he was on VZW, i would mail him my BB8130 so he wouldn't lose his unlimited package for if bricking his phone.

Kinda thinking of getting this case: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Silicone-Gel-Hard-Bumper-Case-cover-for-Samsung-Galaxy-Nexus-GT-I9250-/150784811629?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item231b79a26d#ht_2635wt_1020

It's just a bumper but it's a nice one. Covers all the edges, has black rubber on the front lip and over the buttons, will feel nice and thin since theres no back on it, and honestly most falls/drops are going to hit the corners/edges. It's not TPU so it hopefully won't discolor too quickly either. :chin:

Plus only $4 :jester:

Or I could get this cheap ass case:

If gold standard was tastefully done (golded out ICS) then it wouldnt look bad :imo

I almost never like gold, no matter how it is done. But when it is gold on top of grey... it is horrible

Might try this for a while though:

I hate yellow, hate everything about it. Such an ugly color lol.

but you don't mind gold? I'm the other way around. Don't mind yellow when used correctly, pretty much always hate gold. Gold colored things, gold painted things, gold jewelry, etc.

that said, I tried the yellow theme and wasn't feeling it, so this is how mine is setup now:

Aokp = pink unicorn porn

Unless you disable it in the settings... then you'll just have a regular android animation
