At first was annoyed with widgetsoid because of not so great translation and the weird way of setting it up but once I figured it out, its pretty damn nice. Have uninstalled QuickSettings nao.

stonehenge
02-02-2011, 05:08 PM
Didn't look into it too much but KaosFroyo is most likely vanilla and slightly overclocked so it will probably be a lot smoother. Vanilla is also not as bulky as Sense.

SarkOzy
02-02-2011, 05:15 PM
Yup it's vanilla. I'm going to flash V39 even though there is a gps bug. V37 doesn't have that bug but has a battery drain issue. I prob won't use teh gps anyway.

Have you tried playing music from the music player instead of Pandora to see what happens?

Tried this last night, no go. I think I am simply overlooking something that needs to be checked or switched. Going to do more research and see. I hope I can get this to work. I really wish they would just make the same app for the droid as the iPhone so it would just work.

Those ROMs Mike posted are good looking. I really like how they went to 4 separate slide unlocks on the lock screen. I assume they take you directly to the option you unlock, e.g. message unlock would go to message program?

stonehenge
02-02-2011, 08:17 PM
I posted that foo :read: but that rom is for the Eris.

If you want something like that, just install WidgetLocker. It is a lockscreen replacement that lets you put widgets on the lockscreen but it also lets you make custom sliders. You can choose what Icon is on it and what app it opens. Pretty useful sometimes.

yep, looks like a nice phone but I have my doubts when it comes to HTC. They don't release POSs but almost all of them seem to have something wrong with them. The Incredibles battery sucks, the Evo seemed sluggish to me, the Eris was buggy, etc. None of them are crap phones by any means but they all have some sort of issues.

Moto releases BAMF phones that are usually stable and solid but they lock their shit down :emo:

Haven't decided what I think of Sammy/LG yet :hmm:

lol i'm just playing, whatever makes you happiest is the right phone for you. some people looooove blackberries even though they are underpowered, the OS leaks memory like a bitch, there are no apps and the pay ones are expensive, etc. but they love it so its all good.

I just find it surprising that you find Android horrible. I've talked to people who have come from iOS, WinMo, Blackberries, Palms, dumbphones, etc and most of them love it. The ones who don't love it, don't HATE it, they just find iOS to be easier or blackberries to be better for their business or whatever.

One of the things I hate about the Android OS is the fact that most of the Apps that I use on a regular basis work better on iOS devices. IMDB, Wikipedia, and Netflix are just a few examples. Add in thew fact that can only use Shazzam three times a month without paying for it and it becomes annoying.

I like the app organization on the iPhone better as well.

I don't like keeping all my contact information on GMail's servers or Google Calendar. I much prefer having that stuff local, even if it means I can only sync to one machine.

But hey, you like what you like. I'll be selling my Incredible as soon as my new phone arrives if anyone is interested.

Hey now!?!?!?!?!

I gave Android a shot, and will be coming back once battery technology improves, phone's are capable of lasting a day (don't even use them that much/and i shouldn't have to buy an extended battery), and a screen bigger than D1 (because my fingers have a hard time typing on that touchscreen). Those are the only reasons I came back to my BB9630.

Yeah, its not a powerhouse (media, leaks memory etc), but the push-email of BB BIS/BES is a winner. If I dont get my email, the repercussions of that are pretty great...and well, I need it to last (at least) from 6:00am - 11:00pm.

MikeH
02-03-2011, 10:13 PM
you gonna be waiting a while if you are waiting for battery technology.

race2c
02-03-2011, 10:52 PM
Well, I dont mean like totally new technology li-ion, platinum, whatever materials, etc. Thats going to be awhile. We can all agree thought that the technology of batteries is lagging behind when compared to smartphone development.

I mean like the use of more battery management in the ROMs themselves, e.g. like CM does. I just want technology that will improve the life without having to adjust my data (2g/3g/etc), adjust my screen, adjust the profiles, etc. I just hate, in the back of my mind, that I have to limit my phone usage so I can make it to the end of the day. Not a fan of having to carry a charger around even though, I do carry a USB cable.

Do you understand what I mean though?

$0.02

stonehenge
02-03-2011, 11:35 PM
the main battery hogs are screen, gps, and 4g. If they figure out a way to lower the amount of power those consume and couple that with a slightly larger battery in each phone, that could go a long way. They have been working hard on power saving screens but not sure about gps and 4g is new so its a hog.

MikeH
02-03-2011, 11:56 PM
Doesnt LGs screen consume like 50% less power or something like that? I would just carry around an extra battery if I had to have my phone last a certain period of time. Its not like batteries are big.

stonehenge
02-04-2011, 12:27 AM
Yeah I think LGs screens are supposed to be nice.

As for the battery, yeah. If I needed it to last that long and couldn't charge anywhere then id take an extra battery like you said.

Tried every possible combination of press/hold vol up/vol down and power and press/release those keys. Nothing works. Even with the root app not installed I still can't boot into recovery.

SarkOzy

Black screen with a phone in the backgrond and exclamation point on the middle of a red triangle.

i may let a buddy of mine play with it later. he said to use vol down but that does the same thing.

MikeH

Once you get there you have to use another combination of buttons to get to recovery. Thinks it volume up + power when at the triangle.

It will work. I dont remember the exact combo but you gotta do it just right. Hit both buttons different ways, I think you have to push them exactly at the same time tho. It might also be volume down. If you are gonna flash a ROM then just use ROM Manager.

SarkOzy

MikeH

you need to root then flash a custom recovery which rom manager can do. you cant load a rom without a custom recovery.

---------- Post added at 02:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:15 PM ----------

I know. But I haven't flashed anything in months, so I'm still reading up again on all of it. I stopped playing once I got my phone just how I wanted it.
Its not rocket science. If something goes wrong just fire up odin and flash this

Mike, I've been following the directions in the eris section of droidforums. My buddy was finally able to get it. He tried all sorts of shit and nothing would work, untl finally it just decided to work.

Anyway, 2.2 is running on it now. It's pretty damn neat. The only issue I can see is I'm going to catch hell with battery life. Here at home and at work especially 3g coverage comes and goes, so it's always switching back and forth and I know that's why the battery lasted 1:48 just sitting idle yesterday. :rofl2: I have a usb cable so at least I can keep it plugged in at work.

By the way, I've searched and tried a couple of different apps to get screenshots. Which one do you use? I can't get any of them to work, or I'm just too dumb to figure it out lol

MikeH
02-07-2011, 01:28 AM
I had that problem with my old Incredible. I just kept pushing the buttons until it finally worked. If you are in a spotty area and arent using the phone put a widget that toggles 3G so you can turn it off. I would suggest widgetsoid in the market, for screenshots use shootme.

It'll have to wait until I get home tonight though.

So I brought up a power control widget on another window pane and it shows a 2G/3G control, but it doesn't do anything. There is also a mobile data on/off that turns off the 3G icon, so I'm keeping it shut off here at work since there is little to no coverage inside the building.

besides a theme and some small changes, there isn't much difference between froyo/gingerbread

Froyo should be plenty for now, it is more of a major change. Froyo brought flash in the browser, apps-to-sd which you may find useful on an Eris, and some other things.

Also, if you dislike the white bar, I bet there are themes available for that rom.

you can set it up as a single 1x1 that shows your current weather or a 4x1 that shows the week or a 4x1 or 4x2 that is a clock with the weather, etc. It's pretty flexible. Plus when you tap it to view the weather, it looks sexy :jester:

Personal preference to have nothing on the homescreen? Or is there some advantage to it?

MikeH

Same here, I just like the nice sexy look of a clean desktop. Sometimes I remove BW but most the time I leave it with a clean theme on it.

Chriz, I'll type up mah applist in a second.

:jester: well so far I'm liking it it definitely has more options that when I first tried it. Just disabled notifications on handcent for a while. Pop-up is definitely more seks. And the themes are so clean.
