Told him that my phone kept rebooting itself at random times during the day (It's up to 10-15 times now) and he said it was the battery.. I told him he was full of shit so he had me pull the SIM card, and replace it. Yeah.. that worked :bird: Not really.

I'm tired of doing factory resets on this fuckwad and having to restore all of my apps and stuff.....

Anyways.

1. Yes, you need to get Root Explorer and go into the filesystem and rename the apps you don't want so they don't show up.

2. A rom is the OS of the phone. Roms can change the theme, performance, features, etc of a phone. In the DXs case, the rom can't change EVERYTHING. It will always have the stock kernel and some other base files. On other phones that are fully unlocked, every part of the filesystem and rom can be changed.

3. There are a couple ways but I have heard that the carriers are going to be cracking down on it and charging people who get caught. That said, many people still do it and I don't think many have been caught so far.

It's the newest version of Android for phones (2.3). It runs smoother, has a new theme, when it comes to the DX, it has a few upgrades in different Motorola apps. It has a dark blue notification bar instead of fugly white one.

Wan is running a stock version of Gingerbread, but I'm running CyanogenMod which is a modded version (aka ROM) of the OS. I think Mike might be running it on his Thunderbolt as well. Not available on DX though I don't think. :(

hmm

1. Download leaked GB rom (3 files), copy to SD card.
2. Install z4root app, run it, click a button, wait, reboot, run it, click button, done
3. Install bootstrap app, run it, click a button, wait, click other button, phone reboots into recovery
4. Make a backup in this recovery, flash rom in 3 parts, reboot

Then phone should load GB. If it doesn't:

5. Go into recovery and wipe data/cache (all your apps/settings get deleted)
6. Boot phone again.

If it still won't boot after this, you need to SBF which is a completely different process and will bring you back to old stock 2.2.

If it sounds like something you want to tackle, I can write out better directions later.

Yep, running stock Moto GB. CM7 not available. There are a couple GB roms out I think but I haven't tried them, been pretty happy with stock, deodexed, with a custom battery in 10% increments.

RSDLite: http://db.tt/wfeHAbb

Moto Drivers: 32bit (http://db.tt/tZ8iQ32) or 64bit (http://db.tt/TFt55YN) (depending on what OS your PC is running)

You'll need those if it fails to boot or you delete the wrong thing or fuck something else up. :jester: chances are you won't need to do it but it's always good to have it on your computer just in case, I've had to do it a few times in the past.

I used had very little problems flashing, rooting and romming my DX. In terms of gB, e.g. AOT talk for gingerbread, I haven't used it but do enjoy Liberty v2.0.1. As a matter of fact, ever since getting this DX, I haven't played much with the ROMs. I played more with the ROMs on the D1.

A lot of people have had issues with Titanium and GB if I remember right. I used MyBackup Root (free in the market) and it did a good job of backing up my call log, sms, bookmarks, and apps/data. It seems to take longer than Titanium to do it but hasn't given me problems like Titanium has in the past.

I think you're referring to a full backup. You do it via the custom recovery (we'll get to that in the instructions later). It backs up everything on your phone into a directory on your SD card. You can then go back later and restore it. So before you do anything with GB, you'll make a full backup. So if you don't like GB or decide to go back for some other reason, you can SBF and then restore that backup.

Yeah you can, but you don't have to if you don't want to. Having stuff on it won't mess with GB or anything. But yeah, you can format it if you want, worst thing is you'll lose your pics/music/etc and if any apps save stuff to the SD you'll lose that to (most don't).

Ok, this assumes you already downloaded the stuff I posted earlier and have installed RSDLite and the Moto Drivers.

Download these and put them somewhere on your SD card where you can find them easily:

- Z4root.apk (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953) (you'll need to sign up on XDA but thats a good idea anyway)
- D2 Bootstrap (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=C3KGSHUZ) (yes, D2, the old DX one doesn't work on gingerbread)
- All Three parts of .588 rooted GB (http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-x-discussion/7047-droidx-gingerbread-2-3-3-4-5-588-install-patch-root.html)
- .595 Deodexed (http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-x-discussion/7333-new-leak-official-upgrade-path-gingerbread.html)

Le Process:

If you want to backup your current setup, do the following. If not, skip down to step 1.

- Install z4root from SD card and do permanent root

Install D2 Bootstrapper from SD card, run the app, click "Bootstrap Recovery", click Allow when asked about root permission, you should then get a Success! dialog. Now click Reboot Recovery and move to the next step.

When the phone reboots into ClockworkMod Recovery, use the volume keys to move down to "backup and restore", select it with the camera button. Then select "Backup" and wait while your phone backs itself up. When done, press the power button to back out of menus until you see the "reboot system now" option. Choose that to reboot back into Android.

1. SBF Your phone:
- Power off phone
- Hold camera & volume-down buttons while you turn it back on (you'll see a bootloader screen)
- Open RSDLite
- Plug in your USB cable (phone should show USB is connected)
- Click the "..." button in RSDLite and choose the .sbf file
- Click "Start" and wait for it to flash your shit back to stock 2.2

- To see a video of how to do it, go here (http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-x-how-tos/6233-how-sbf-droid-x-2-3-320-340-a.html)

2. Boot up the phone (first boot takes a while after SBFing or flashing), skip adding accounts when you first boot up.

3. Install z4root from SD card (use stock Files app to get to the apk) and do permanent root

4. Install D2 Bootstrapper from SD card, run the app, click "Bootstrap Recovery", click Allow when asked about root permission, you should then get a Success! dialog. Now click Reboot Recovery and move to the next step.

5. Install first GB Leak (.588):
- Navigate with the volume buttons, select an option with the camera button, and back out of menus with the power button.
- Go to "install zip from sdcard" and "choose zip from sdcard" and select the first part of .588
- Once it is done, repeat with the second part and then third.
- After all 3 are installed, go back to the main menu and choose "wipe data/factory reset" and choose Yes. Then wait.
- Repeat the last step again for good measure.
- Choose the "reboot system now" option

6. Wait for phone to boot (it will take a long time to boot since you just flashed something), skip google account sign in and reinstall D2Bootstrap (you will already be rooted)

7. Install newest GB Leak (.595):
- Boot into ClockworkMod Recovery again using Bootstrap app
- Do the following like you did in step 5 but with the newer zip files
- Install .595 deodexed zip
- Wipe/factory reset again twice

8. Reboot back into Android (it will take a while to boot again)

9. Install the latest busybox (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.jrummy.busybox.installer&feature=search_result)

10. Install JRummy Market Fixer (http://jrummy16.com/jrummy/testing/fix.apk)

11. If D2 bootstrapper isn't installed, do so :imo

Also. Z4root isn't showing up in the app drawer. I do I know that it is roooted.

Once you are rooted you can uninstall Z4root. The .588 and .595 that you flashed were both rooted already so no need for Z4. You only need Z4 to go from unrooted to rooted.

Plus, z4 won't root a stock GB anyway, you need a different app for that. z4 only works on the older .340 :insane:

longpress an icon on your homescreen and hit edit, assuming you are using ADW then tap on the icon and select the picture, etc you want to use.

You can change them on LP too brah. You mean one on your homescreen or one on your dock?

For the homescreen, just press menu, add, shortcut, applications, pick your app, then it lets you choose the name for it and if you tap the icon, you can change it. Then hit ok and your done.

For the dock, long press on one of them and choose "change icon".

I think most of the roms (including stock) have some issues. Whether it is wifi, 3g, reboots, etc I dunno cuz I don't have one. Plus I think the battery life is the suck. Mike would know better.

so far I think they have all been rooted

some have more of a community behind them when it comes to roms/themes/etc

some of them still have locked bootloaders (Motorola) so they'll never see FULL roms like MIUI or CM.

some have been unlocked but still haven't seen many full roms (Fascinate)

Apparently the Bionic they were talking about had some sort of issues (don't remember what kind, either battery or 4g or something) so they scrapped it and are going to release a different phone under the Bionic name. I think the one they are going to release was originally called the Targa.

Otterbox cases are made well (I had one on le D1) and if you get a Commuter series they aren't HORRIBLY big but they are still bulky. They plug ports and shit tho and are hybrid hard/soft cases so it makes sense they'd be larger.

I recommend the TPU cases. They are thicker than silicone, not sticky like silicone, stay on like a hard case, don't damage your phone like a hard case, etc. Best of both worlds.
