I unlocked my parents ATT Samsung J3 or whatever. I went to the website, entered the info, they got an email with the code, entered it in the phone, done. Used it on TMo for a while.

But they bought that cheap phone outright from the beginning, never had a payment plan. So maybe that helped.

So, after I ranted and cussed and then calmed down and did it all over again, I got a nice lady named Gabriella who actually got shit done! Damn it's amazing what someone can do if they try!!

TO add to that, I contacted Straight Talk to get new SIM cards for my phones so we could port over from ATT. "They will arrive in 5-7 business days"... That 3 weeks ago lol.

I got some dude to give me a tracking # and according to that, they left Miami, came to Macon, to my local Post Office, Out for Delivery, back to macon, back to local PO, back to macon, back to local PO, back out for delivery.. that was 4 days ago and I haven't checked since b/c I'm just fucking amazed at how shitty stuff has become.
I mean damn, I work in the exact same field they do (except in a phone center) and I get my shit right... :blah:

Yes, I replaced the battery with each of my 6 spare batteries. I also replaced the motherboard, screen/frame, and lower board (contains MEID, mic, speakers, vibrate, and part of the WiFi antenna). Literally no part has been left unreplaced; I have a few spares that I bought for their screens and batteries.

With two of the motherboards, any lower board, any of the screens, and a few of the batteries, I can get it to show signs of life by plugging in power then removing the battery so it shows me the screen with a battery and a question mark.

With one of those two motherboards, a couple times I was able to get it to give me a boot security error; that is how it was when I bought it. Somebody hard bricked it.

It's a bummer to abandon the platform when I have so many spare batteries and screens but it's time to move on. At least with the S4 batteries and screens should be plentiful and cheap.

My new S4 came on Friday. This thing is great!

I wish I had gotten the 32GB model but 16 is doing great so far. I've got tons of crap on internal memory and there's still GIGABYTES of free space! What a difference from the shitty old phone having something like 800MB total internal space, mostly used up by bloatware (which, of course, I uninstalled after rooting).

Speaking of rooting, it rooted easily. Gotta throw a recovery image on it so I can get good backups, then I can really start hacking around.

A few issues though...

1. Even with headphones plugged in, I can't browse and set ringtones/alarms/etc without the sound coming out of the speaker. That's fine if I'm alone somewhere, but I'm never goddamn alone anymore.

2. Why the fuck did I have to go to the Security settings and clear all certificates to undo my lockscreen security pattern lock (so I could have regular swipe lock back)? And why the fuck did Samsung go non-standard with the screenshot key combination? Gotta do home+power instead of volumedown+power.

3. Some kind of flaky crashing:

The first time I turned it on and tried to get through the intro/new user wizard/whatever, it powered off and rebooted halfway through. I had to start over. Then it was fine for a while.

Saturday morning I played music on it while doing stuff and it was fine. Then about noon, outdoors in the bright sun, I wanted to take some pictures. At first it worked fine, then it started crashing and rebooting. It was so bad that I was completely unable to use it; I'd start to draw my lock screen pattern or launch the camera from the lock screen and it would crash before I could even get in.

Later, thinking about it, I realized it might be crashing when it pulls too much battery current. Immediately before it started acting up I connected to a WiFi signal that was barely there, and couldn't get it to work (but could mostly stay connected). I'm sure that reaching out to that weak signal required all the juice there was, plus in the bright sunlight the screen cranked up to 100% brightness and so on.

I hope it's just the battery. I was already expecting to replace it anyway. New battery arrives in a couple days.

1. How often do you set that shit? I agree that's annoying but after you have your tones set then you probably won't change them often.

2. :shrug: and the screenshot thing is annoying but you'll get used to it pretty quick. I think as of the S8, it is power and vol down like normal.

3. Could be battery or maybe overheating? Hopefully battery... :chuy:

So yesterday I finally installed TWRP recovery. Tried to half-ass it without paying attention to what I was doing and soft-bricked it, then couldn't fix it (turned out the cable I was using was bad), had to leave work without it and go grocery shopping sans-smartphone, carrying iPad around Walmart. Got home and had it fixed in five minutes of work. :jester:

Then I realized it has an IR emitter. Installed app, now I have universal remote control in phone, even put a few remote button widgets on a home screen. Awwwyeah!

I keep seeing apps I don't use and having my reflexive feeling of need to delete, but then I remember that I have gigabytes of free space still. :happy:

Wish I could install widgets on lock screen the way I did on my LG. Had my Google Keep notes there. Not sure if it's because different manufacturer-installed lockscreen or if because Android 5 vs. 4...thoughts?

The point of the lockscreen, when not secured with a pattern/pin/fangleprint/etc, is to prevent butt-dialing, pocket-deleting, etc. Phone in pocket will unlock and do all kinds of shit if there is NO lockscreen. A simple swipe is good enough to prevent that without adding much annoyance when wanting to unlock it.

Close enough. Added one of my Dark Sky weather widgets, another failed. Added Google Keep and the actual notes don't show like they normally would with the homescreen widget (and like they did with the lockscreen widget on old phone) but that's not a deal-breaker for me; at least I can go straight to Google Keep from the lockscreen, which doesn't have configurable shortcuts. Neither of my flashlight widgets work from it though.

Actually, just realized widget lockscreen doesn't have camera and phone shortcuts. DGAF about phone shortcut but I'll either need to add a widget to launch camera or try a different lockscreen app.

Hmm, that usually means that you have no cell signal and wifi calling is off or your SIM card isn't working right.

Try removing your SIM, wipe down the contacts just for fun, and put it back in. See if that helps.

You could go to a TMo store and see if they'll give you a new SIM if it keeps doing that.

Check your APN and connection settings (on mine it is in Settings > More under networks > Mobile Networks). Make sure Network Mode is set to GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto, make sure your Access Point Names is set to T-Mobile LTE, tap Network Operators > Search Networks and choose TMo. Maybe something there will clear it up.

After that I guess you could try a Factory Reset but you'll lose anything that isn't backed up.

yeah my V20 is teaching me that having a phone that's a year or two old isn't a big deal anymore. It used to be that after a couple years they'd be pretty slow and the newer phones had WAY better cameras, more memory, etc. Now things are changing slower and 2yr old phones are still great (flagships anyway).

especially for Pixel's since you can unlock them and flash allthethings.

whenever V20 dies, I'll probably get a year old pixel/p2/p3 if I can find a decent one.

you can set playlists to Offline and download everything while you're on wifi :shrug:

there are advantages to having mp3s but I like having my entire library available on my computer, phone, tablet, ps4, etc. at any time. When we went on our roadtrip, we made a huge playlist and set it to Offline. no issues. Also it helps that TMo doesn't count Spotify towards data usage. If they counted it, I may think differently lol

But mp3s are free and don't use any data :shrug:

Hey, did I tell you guys I got a 64GB Nexus 6? It was given to me by a friend because USB port is dead so Qi wireless charging only. It's not on a small module board, it's microsoldered to the motherboard, so it's not cheap/easy to fix, but fuck it I'll just Qi charge only.

Still using S4 as my mobile connectivity and haven't activated Nexus 6...I want to activate it on Google Fi so I can haz signal from variety of towers, but $30/mo is WAY too rich for me right now. I might should look for my type of super-cheap carrier that uses GSM or Verizon towers, but wahtever.

Anyway, using Nexus 6 on WiFi and it's pretty freakin' sweet.

I moved to Cricket a month ago. Sounds ghetto but TMo just didn't work where we are living now, signal was shit, even tried signal boosters. Cricket uses ATT towers and it's SOLID. We don't have wifi out there either so we went with their unlimited allthethings plan. $90/mo for 2 lines, no caps. Get around 60-70Mbps down. Notbad.

Only thing it's missing is hotspot. That's an extra $10 and they only allow you to do it from certain bought-from-Cricket phones. We're using an unlocked TMo V20 and unlocked LG from Amazon so no hotspot for us. :blahclap:

Love my Pixel 3A XL. Is $400 or $480 unlocked retail depending on normal or XL. 3 years of guaranteed updates, security updates every month, no bloat, bamf camera, bamf battery life, still has headphone jack, 64gb storage.

Only downsides are plastic build (honestly I like this, should be more drop resistant), no sd slot, and ummm idk? Screen is "only" 1080p but looks great. Processor is a "mid-range" but I don't notice any lag. No ir blaster, non-removable battery but those are missing on every phone now...

Running Android Q beta right now for the hell of it.

Been happy with it. You can get cheaper phones but they're either bloated, never get updated, cameras suck, are a few years old, etc. Discounted Pixel 3 or Pixel 2 would be nice too, higher res screens and faster processor but shorter battery life.

well, this Pixel 3A XL feels faster than my V20 (flagship from a couple years ago) so wouldn't worry about that. If you're filling up internal and SD tho, might need more space than what a 3A offers.

Mmkay. So, I needs help here. I work for a software company out of ATL right now, that caters to public safety. CAD, mobile dispatch, records Management, booking, etc.

Here's where I need help. I want to write some code that could be integrated into our software to be able to broadcast the 2way radio traffic from each agency to the mobile computer of the field users, as well as possibly an app. Doesn't need to be PTT per say, but I just need a way to get the audio feed from our server that we Install for each location, to our mobile software. And maybe have a simple app.

I'm trying to do this to improve the ability for different agencies to communicate with one another. Most neighboring agencies are not on the same type of 2 way radios system, so that leads to them not being able to hear what is going on in the case of something major going g on.


Basically, I want to have a dumbed down Zello type software. I haven't found any open source code to begin with. And it needs to be cross platform.

I'm using Zello currently at our FD so we can hear the pages and radio traffic over a channel I made that's hooked to a mobile radio I have set to monitor that channel. Works awesome honestly. I just don't want Zello to have to be used as a part of this.

so the s10+ I got is an unlocked att phone...any way I can change it over to vzw? Some vzw specific stuff isn't working, like text message notifications when I get a vm...it comes up as just a bunch of gibberish...cant get visual vm to work either. Figured I might be able to just wipe it and load a vzw version?

yes you can have to flash a vzw rom. I did it to both my wifes s8 and s9. idk if there is a guide on the s10 yet.

You ODIN the unlocked firmware it will work with any carrier and not have bloatware. Only downside is will not show carrier name on top left corner by clock.

I did with old S7, after Verizon rep told me that it would never ever work on Verizons network. Fgt.

you loose stuff like wifi calling and shit. i run a stock vzw software for that reason. for some reason i don't get ota updates but my wife does. mine was already flashed when i bought it her wasn't and i did it so that could be the differnce. you can change it so it shows as a vzw phone too. its all on xda forums. fyi you can flash any galaxy 7 and up to any carrier you want.

it wouldn't work with my s8 or s9 without flashing vzw stock rom on it. apparently theres works different than the stock wifi calling. it would be greyed out.

pretty sure you can disable the bixby button but you have to first sign into the bixby app or service or w/e with a Samsung account. After you're signed in, you can disable it in settings in that app.

At least I think that's how I did it on my mom's S9 or whatever she has.

Was hoping I could delete or atleast disable the fkn thing completely. Got damn samsung shoving this shit down my throat all :wifflebat: like. :crossarms:
