You don't have to change plans lol. Unless something has changed. Unlimited data is unlimited data. LTE doesn't matter. That's why people can switch between LTE and 3G phones so easily, and you don't HAVE to use LTE if you get a 4G phone. Just turn it off.

Take that iphone back and get a gnex. The gnex is a much better device based on specs. We all know apple products are behind when they are released, so get something that will be able to withstand some of technology updates.

GNex is still $299 at verizon. It's $229 at wirefly with an upgrade but since you've used it at VZW already, I don't know if returning the iPhone will return your upgrade to use somewhere else. :chin:

If you want to stick with Android, look at the GNex, Razr, or Razr Maxx.

If you want to play with roms and whatnot at some point and want the latest OS and updates, get a GNex. It also has a zero-shutter delay camera so takes FAST creeps. I guess the only downside is no sd card slot but it has 32gb internal so it isn't needed.

If you want to stick with the DX form factor and motorola skin on top of android, look at a Razr or for beast battery the Razr Maxx. They seem like decent phones but are locked down like the DX so modding is more of a PITA. Oh and no removable battery.

Well, part of it depends on how much you like Android. Also, is the iPhone a 16gb? If so then you also get double the storage. The GNex has the 0-lag camera, 720p screen, etc also. Go play with one at the store and decide but several of the peeps here have GNex's and love them. I'll be getting one soon.

I wonder if they're making a GSM page and a CDMA page. I can't see them just halfassing the 4g CDMA support. Just because all of europe uses CDMA, doesn't mean they should drop two major carriers in the US. Which are the first two to even get the damned phone here.

It was about the way cdma devices are coded they can't officially support them. They are still gonna send out updates for the nexus. I think once everything switches over to lte it will be fine

To function correctly, these .apk files must be signed by the so-called "platform" key. However, when an individual creates a custom build from the AOSP source code, they don't use the same signing key as these CDMA flies were signed with.

The result is that these files don't work properly, and pure AOSP builds running on these devices can't place calls, access mobile data, and so on. Because we aim to make sure that we are as clear as possible about the degree of support that devices have, we updated the docs over at source.android.com to reflect this reality.

We will still make available as many as possible of the closed-source binaries for these devices, and Nexus devices will continue to have unlockable bootloaders. And, of course, GSM/HSPA+ devices are still supported, as are any other devices we're able to support. We've simply updated the documentation to be clearer about the current extent of CDMA support.

We are of course always working to improve support, and we'll keep everyone updated as we make improvements. Thanks as always for your interest in AOSP!

Fascinate met its match before anyone really started delving into ROMs for it like they are now. I have lost confidence in stock Droids and their OS. After talking w/ Vz rep last time I was in and pretty much telling him what I had done and gone through he acknowledged on the side that he prob has 10-15 Droids for every 1 iPhone customer w/ problems. It just seems droid is more insistent on making the consume marker more of their guinea pigs and waiting on feedback that they more or less want to hear compared to how Apple works, or so it seems.

I'd like to tinker w/ roms and such, but as little time as I have now, I dont want to waste it researching and putting stuff together for phone, that is just 1 more headache I honestly dont think I need at the moment. I just want it to make calls, text, surf web and play music w/o going BOOM.

When it comes to the thought of android tinkering versus apple tinkering and come down to androids fractionation of the OS. Apple only has 1 device for iOS the iPhone, and usually the folks who mess with that have jailbroken stuff before too. Plus, you jailbreak stuff and there goes your warranty from what I had heard so no going to cell store. :shrug: If you screw up an android just install the original SBF file and go to the store. Some may know about the underlying tails of rooting, but who cares.

Now, my device (rooted DX running MIUI) is real reliable for my uses. 2 college emails, 1 gmail, etc all with associated calendars running on it. My only problems are when the battery gets to around 10-15% then it starts getting laggy, but by that time its 930-10pm. I don't think I could go back to any version of unrooted android.

Given this, there is no way I could go to an iPhone either unless its a company paid phone. Then again, CVX/COP/any oil gas energy company still uses blackberries due to the battery life and they are an intrinsically safe device. I prefer to have control over my device as i see fit. For one thing, I absolutely hate how iOS does their stock launcher setup.

We can't do that anymore. The Galaxy S phones are using a different style of color tuning now that's built into an app in CM. Basically someone figured out how to hack in the Samsung code for display processing. My only question is whether it'll mess with the GummySettings in the framework. I guess we'll see.

I've been running GummyFas (unofficial name but FIDIL) and I kinda like it. The UI is smoother than CM9 or AOKP, but AOKP has moar beast settings.

Go to rootz wiki in the Fascinate section, find Team Hacksung build 6 (not 6.1) on page 14 and download. Also download GAPPS V7.1, flash and prawfit.

Yep, BB apps are shitty, only work with certain versions of the OS, and are usually crazy expensive when Android/iOS have them for free or cheap.

The missing feature I'll notice is the camera so I might not stay on this for long. Otherwise I've just noticed some weird things. There is a Mass Storage notification open at all times, even when it isn't plugged in. There is also a notification telling me what language I'm using that comes up when I'm using the keyboard anywhere.

Other than that it seems to work great, no errors or anything yet :chin:

FINALLY found a way to fix the damn lack of color tuning in the AOKP and Gummy ports. It came from MIUI of all places :jester:

Well, sorta but not really. A MIUI rom in freaking Portuguese has a modded ariesparts.apk (controls colors and gamma on galaxy s phones) but it's for the international i9000. I came across it looking for something on my Nexus and surprisingly it works on the Fascinate with the ports that don't have the device options from CM. It's a little more complicated than just adding that in which is why it's not there, but I digress. Hit up the dev (who apparently speaks 3 words of english) and he said it's okay to use, so I yanked it out of the MIUI rom. Now we can haz Gummy and AOKP goodness with no washed out colors. :happy:

Had an Android tablet for a while called an Advent Vega. Ever heard of it? It had some damn good hardware I inside it for a stupidly low price (lots of economising, it used a recycled netbook screen and a really shit old webcam and stuff to get the price right down) but the software was total shit, didn't even have the Android Market. I got a neighbour who knows his stuff with Android though, and he stuck a Honeycomb ROM on there, for £200 the thing was epic as all hell, shame a lot of these things gotta be hacked to be good, otherwise I'd recommend them.

Use an iPad now because I'm an iOS developer but the Vega is recommended to anybody with l33t droid sk1llz looking for a good tablet.

1) SBF to .602 unless you're already on MIUI 1.12.9, 1.12.30, 2012.1.8, or 2012.1.30 (or see the cheat sbf method below)
2) Reroot with 1-click root.
3) Flash Rom
4) Flash any "Additions" you would like from the list below.
5) Reboot and hit the hard volume down key to access bootmenu at the blue led
6) Go to CPU settings and set your OC/UV and Governor settings. Be sure to save the settings before you go back.
5) Re-enable root permissions in the superuser app.
6) Do not restore backups made before version 1.10.7.

i do not plan on OC/UC...so just skip?
