Motorola Shadow (current name anyway, the Droid was called the Tao and Sholes before it came out)

4.3" screen, 760mhz processor, 8mp camera with 720p video recording, hdmi out, ummm 8 or 16gb internal memory... I think thats about it. The screens resolution is the same as ours. No keyboard.

It will be faster than ours but it also comes with MOTOBLUR which I don't like. It is a replacement UI that has a main focus of social networking :down:

I think Pro be a world phone with sim slot, Droid2 be faster and more polished Droid (no gold, no "chin" at the bottom, better keyboard, nicer camera) but with pretty much same size and screen. Shadow is bigger and faster w/ MOTOBLUR pero no haz keyboard.

Not tooo mash info leaked yet pero I will be watching since wifey wants mah Droid and I can upgrade in Augusto :datass:

Guy fired for leaking Motorola Droid Shadow pics

Early this week a guy who works at a Verizon corporate gym was schlepping about when he ran across a handset left behind by one of the Verizon workers. The dude soon realized it was an unreleased handset and did what any normal geek would do — leaked the pics to Gizmodo.

I thought when I heard about the device that doing something like that at your work where it’s pretty easy to figure out who did something was not a bright move. Turns out, I was right. Gizmodo reports that the guy has now been fired for leaking the images.

The ironic part is that a friend/coworker of the guy who took the pic you see here was the one who actually sent them to Gizmodo. I am betting the guy should have kept that fact to himself. A second report on the pal getting fired will probably surface any day.

I really like CyanogenMod, I'm still using it. I like that you can install the rom and kernels using their app. The app also notifies you of updates to the rom, lets you backup via the app (it reboots into recovery and does it all automatically), and is overall a very clean rom. It doesn't come bundled with a bunch of apps and shit.

Only downside is that it has the stock theme. So to theme it you have to manually use MetaMorph or pay for the Premium version of their app so you can install them the easy way.

I paid the $4 because I liked the rom/app that much.

Oh and one big plus for CyanogenMod is that you can install apps to your sdcard. So whenever you have to wipe to install a new version of the rom, all your apps are still there when you come back :D

You can choose to install on sd or internal. So you can put things that are vital like LauncherPro and Lookout and whatnot on the internal memory so they'll run faster and be there in case of sd failure :emo: and put all the games and whatnot on the sd. That's how I am now, I have like 3 things on the internal and the rest on sd. I notice no difference in speed.

It be easy. First if you want you can get "App List" from the market. It will save a list of all your apps to the sdcard (applist.txt). Might be handy.

Then go to the market and install Rom Manager. The free one be fine and if you like it enough you can pay $4 for the one that lets you install themes and other roms and shit.

When it opens it will probably ask for root permission, always allow it. Then you should see the first option "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery". Click that, select Droid, let it download, then it will flash it. It only takes a few seconds. It may ask for root permission here instead. I don't members.

Now you haz new recovery. You can now install CyanogenMod. If you haz fast wifi available, connect to it, if not thats fine. In Rom Manager, click "Download ROM", then "CyanogenMod" at the top, then "CyanogenMod 5.0.7.1". Check Google Apps, hit OK. Now it will download the ROM. This may take a while if on 3G. Give it time. When its done you'll get a pop-up. Choose both options (Backup & Wipe) for this first install. Then hit OK and chill the fuck out for a few minutes. It will reboot, backup, wipe, then install the rom. You don't haz to do shit.

When its done it will boot into CM. It may take a while the first time, but thats fine. Once it boots it will seem slow because it is running at stock speed (ta loco stock). Go into Rom Manager, choose Download ROM, then CyanogenMod, then either bekit Kernels or P3Droid Kernels. Either will work. When you go into them, you'll get several options:

First decide what max speed you want, I like to stay at 1ghz, you can try higher if you want. Then decide what voltage you want. Low voltage runs cooler but some phones don't like it. When I use a low voltage I get lots of FCs and unstability. Others love them. Trying them won't hurt, you can flash new kernels as often as you want. As for "5 Slot" or "7 Slot", that is how many options you'll see in SetCPU. A 5 slot may have 250/400/600/900/1000 where a 7 slot could have 500 and 750 or something also.

I am using the bekit 7 Slot 1.0GHz Standard Voltage but try whatever you want.

When it goes to install, choose to backup but don't wipe.

Now you're done. Next step is to theme it if you want.

go to Download ROM in RM then choose Cyanogen then 5.0.7.1 and check "google apps" option, all same as before pero when it gives you the 2 options "backup existing rom" and "wipe data and cache" you don't need to wipe. And since you don't want to backup this fuckup of an install, you don't need to do that either :rofl2: since you already have a previous backup

By mods you mean like themes and whatnot? Fairly easy. There are a few steps to root and install recovery that need to be done once and then you make a backup and flash whatever mods you want.

Pros? It does everything. Amazing browser, bamf selection of apps, VERY customizable, fast, beautiful screen/resolution, durable design, etc.

Cons.... it has taken over my life? :uhohshrug:

Most apps are free and the ones that aren't are usually around $.99 - 3.99 depending on what it is. Some cost more but not many. And there are ways to "acquire" paid apps for free also. Themes are free if you root and install them.

I think the sound quality as a phone is great. I always get good reception. The call log / contacts / phone app has always worked fine for me also. Plus if you don't like the stock app, you can download a replacement lol

How to install Froyo on a Droid that is rooted with Clockwork Recovery:

Your data will be erased so you will have to reinstall apps and change settings again.
Your SD card will not be touched.

Needed Files:
Froyo Leak 2 (http://www.mydroidfiles.com/downloads/P3DFR-CW.zip)
1GHz Kernel (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PXESZXKN)
New Baseband (http://www.mydroidfiles.com/downloads/baseband-update.zip)

Optional Files:
Clean Black Theme for Froyo (http://www.jbthemes.com/bgill55/Team_CHAOS_Clean_black_froyov1.3.zip)
(Screenshots of theme here (http://www.droidforums.net/forum/team-chaos/49506-team-chaos-clean-black-froyo.html) for you to decide if DFW or DNFW)

Directions:
Put the baseband, kernel, and theme (if you decide to) zip files on your sdcard.

Then on your computer, unzip the Froyo file and it should give you a folder (2010-06-08.blah.blah.blah). Put that folder on your sdcard in the /clockworkmod/backup directory. You should already have some other in there so you'll know you're in the right spot. I recommend renaming it to 2010-06-08-FROYO or something so you can find it easier later.

Now, on your phone, go into Rom Manager and flash the recovery (first option) once. Then choose the second option (Reboot into Recovery).

Go to nandroid > backup and let it do its thing.

When done, go to the main recovery screen (power buttons goes back if you forgot) and go to "wipe data/factory reset" and then Yes.

When thats done, go to nandroid > restore and pick the one that you extracted earlier. Let it install.

When THATS done, go to "Install zip from sdcard" > "Choose zip from sdcard" and then pick the baseband-update.zip file. Let it install. Then do the same for the kernel zip file. Then if you chose to install the theme, do that also.

Now you can go back to the main screen and choose the reboot option. First boot might take a while, then you'll be in Froyo goodness with an overclockable kernel.

To install flash, install this APK like you normally would: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HO8UZSDW

Nope, the file it gives you at the end is a skinned htc keyboard, all in one apk. Just extract the zip file, throw the apk on your phone and install it.

Worked on my wifes Eris so I don't THINK it will conflict with your existing htc keyboard.

How to install Froyo on a Droid that is rooted with Clockwork Recovery:

Your data will be erased so you will have to reinstall apps and change settings again.
Your SD card will not be touched.

Needed Files:
Froyo Leak 2 (http://www.mydroidfiles.com/downloads/P3DFR-CW.zip)
1GHz Kernel (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PXESZXKN)
New Baseband (http://www.mydroidfiles.com/downloads/baseband-update.zip)

Optional Files:
Clean Black Theme for Froyo (http://www.jbthemes.com/bgill55/Team_CHAOS_Clean_black_froyov1.3.zip)
(Screenshots of theme here (http://www.droidforums.net/forum/team-chaos/49506-team-chaos-clean-black-froyo.html) for you to decide if DFW or DNFW)

Directions:
Put the baseband, kernel, and theme (if you decide to) zip files on your sdcard.

Then on your computer, unzip the Froyo file and it should give you a folder (2010-06-08.blah.blah.blah). Put that folder on your sdcard in the /clockworkmod/backup directory. You should already have some other in there so you'll know you're in the right spot. I recommend renaming it to 2010-06-08-FROYO or something so you can find it easier later.

Now, on your phone, go into Rom Manager and flash the recovery (first option) once. Then choose the second option (Reboot into Recovery).

Go to nandroid > backup and let it do its thing.

When done, go to the main recovery screen (power buttons goes back if you forgot) and go to "wipe data/factory reset" and then Yes.

When thats done, go to nandroid > restore and pick the one that you extracted earlier. Let it install.

When THATS done, go to "Install zip from sdcard" > "Choose zip from sdcard" and then pick the baseband-update.zip file. Let it install. Then do the same for the kernel zip file. Then if you chose to install the theme, do that also.

Now you can go back to the main screen and choose the reboot option. First boot might take a while, then you'll be in Froyo goodness with an overclockable kernel.

To install flash, install this APK like you normally would: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HO8UZSDW

Well if you didn't back up then you'll need to reflash Froyo. You DON'T need to wipe so just boot into recovery, restore the nandroid, then install the kernel zip. No need to install baseband again.

Usually. I just flashed another theme last night and it worked fine. I think the only way it wouldn't work 100% is if the new theme didn't change something that the old one did. Like if you had a pink theme that themed EVERYTHING and then installed a black theme that didn't theme the lockscreen, then you'd still have a pink lockscreen. Nawmeen?

So backup, load the theme, see how it looks.

Does it actually do its thing or does it just reboot and chill at the M for a while before booting up? That is what mine was doing. I had to do it manually.

- Go into RM and flash the recovery once
- Reboot into Recovery
- install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard > choose the theme zip

That should work. I think Froyo messed up Rom Managers ability to reboot into recovery and do its thang. :blah: It can still reboot into recovery but can't automatically do stuff, at least thats whats been happening to me.

Then restore your UD backup. There is also a Bugless Beast version of Froyo and I think there may be a UD version too released by those two developers. You could give those a try but I haven't used them so :shrug:

Yep, the latest BB is based on Froyo. Works just fine.

In fact if you end up not liking stock Froyo for whatever reason, there is a new BB, UD, and I think another rom that are all based on Froyo.

This is Brian Carotenuto, I am currently an owner of the original Motorola Droid. I am anxiously awaiting the Moto Droid X, and was wondering about the process of transferring things from the original Droid to the X. (Taking advantage of the VZW early upgrade) I have roughly 220-250 pictures on the phone in the Gallery (pictures taken on most recent vacation to California, and miscellaneous shots of friends and family etc), as well as ringtones purchased from VZW that I have set for family and friends as well as some free apps that I downloaded from the Marketplace. Can all of these be transferred from one model to the other without any major issues?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Pretty much what Jay said. Imagine a stock android phone is like being a member on a forum. You can change your profile, upload some pics, etc. There is a lot you can do. Rooting is like being a mod/admin. There is MORE shit you can do. You can modify things and do things that normal members can't. Then if you go farther and install a recovery image, then it is like being the server guy. You can reinstall the entire operating system, install different versions with different features, overclock the hardware, make backups of the system and restore them, etc.

That is the best way I can think of to describe it. :D

rofl I know. The only thing I'll miss about root is the white bar. It's fast enough to not need overclocking and will have Froyo in a month or so with Flash and whatnot. But a white bar is a small price to pay for 4.3" of sekz
