Found a Fassy that someone listed today. Clean ESN, been in a case & screen protector its whole life, nothing wrong with it, comes with charger/case, seller lives less than a mile from my apartment and wants to meet after church at 9:00. $60

Lady buying X lives on my side of town too. Winnaring.

Sell X at 6:00 for $130, buy Fassy at 9:00 for $60, fuckin profit and have waifu on a phone with colorful screen and AOKP.

:turbohump:

stonehenge
10-03-2012, 09:30 PM
Ok Chris, how does this sound?

What I'm gonna do to waifu's new Fassy:

Download & Install Samsung Drivers if needed (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/25089906/SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe)
Download & Install ODIN v1.83 (http://www.mediafire.com/?429fcpdtpckkcea)
Push EH03 w/ Odin instructions below (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526488)
Boot the phone up and make sure all is well, then pull the battery.
Push GB bootloader w/ instructions below (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22925952&postcount=238)
Boot the phone again to make sure everything's still good.
Push CWM4 fixed for CM7 w/ instructions below (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=657960&d=1310959789)
Boot into recovery (Vol up/down and Power)
Flash rom (Jellybro (http://fitsnugly.euroskank.com/?rom=cm10&device=fascinatemtd)/AOKP (http://androtransfer.com/?developer=AOKP&folder=fascinatemtd)) (Don't freak out when Fassy has seizures)
Set min CPU freq to 200mhz
Set colors http://www.allofftopic.com/showpost.php?p=442464&postcount=20285

How to push a tar w/ ODIN:

Power off Fassy and remove the battery.
Plug stock USB cord into a powered USB port.
Hold Vol Down while plugging the USB cord into the Fassy to get into Download mode. One of the small boxes in Odin will turn yellow, as well as "Added" appearing in the message box.
Click PDA button in Odin and select the .tar file, then click START.
When it's done, it should say succeeded 1 / failed 0 and the phone's screen will go blank.
Unplug the phone, re-insert the battery, and power on.

Do I need to repartition or change filesystems? Should I flash a kernel to get sekz colors? #fassyNewb

The ESN you provided is clean.

Model: Samsung Fascinate a Galaxy S phone

SarkOzy

I forgot to mention Gingerbread bootloaders. After you flash EH03 in ODIN, power cycle the phone, pull the battery and flash this .tar in the PDA section. After it's done, reboot the phone and go ahead and push CWM to it. For some reason Verizon didn't update the damn bootloader in the official GB update and it's needed since all the Galaxy S phones share kernel structure.

Here is the bootloader you need: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22925952&postcount=238

The CM stuff tends to stay on RW for what it's worth. I haven't had any issues with the official nightlies at: http://get.cm/?device=fascinatemtd

It sounds like you have it down. The ONLY time you need to check "repartition" in ODIN is if you're going from an MTD-based ROM (anything CM based. CM, AOKP, and so on) back to stock and you must do it then.

stonehenge
10-03-2012, 10:25 PM
Kk, thanks brah. So no partitioning when going the other direction? Stock to MTD?

Yea, it'll reboot and finish flashing. Also, do not restore app data from a backup of another device. Game stuff should be fine, but due to the partition layout restoring app data causes issues. Although once you're on an MTD ROM, go ahead and make a new backup and that'll be fine to restore from.

Space for data isn't an issue anymore either.

Also, after flashing set the min CPU frequency to 200MHz and check set at boot. 100MHz doesn't save any battery and sometimes causes sleep of death problems. The stock kernel is fine for speed unless you just want to overclock. I'll grab my color settings in a bit.

Won't be restoring anything, she'll start with fresh AOKP. Might even take this opportunity to wipe her sdcard except for pics/music.

I don't see her needing any overclocking, she has been fine w/ the DX using Motoblur 100% stock and it has about the same specs except now it will be AOSP JB which is even smoother. Will set the 200mhz min.

The S3 gets way better battery than the GNex or earlier LTE phones. When you go to upgrade Im sure it wont be an issue at all.

Ok Sal, I looked into rooting/roms for the Droid 4 and it doesn't look too great. There are only a couple rom choices (some have bugs, newest is ICS) and if you mess anything up, there are no D4 Fastboot files available to save you. :eek2:

So if you're uncomfortable with all of this, I'd stick to stock for now. :(

That said, you can make your phone nicer using launchers, keyboards, messaging apps, music apps, etc to replace anything you don't really like.

MikeH
10-10-2012, 04:30 PM
there be fasboot files, just google "droid 4 fastboot"

stonehenge
10-10-2012, 04:31 PM

stonehenge
10-10-2012, 04:59 PM
Yeah v3 sounds like win.

Best rom sounds like CM10, only issues are:
* Odd audio issues
* TURN OFF Bluetooth while it's not paired -- causes "no audio" issue when left enabled

Blur-based roms probably don't have issues but they won't be Jellybean and won't be as nice as CM10 so its a trade-off I guess.

theholycow
10-10-2012, 10:42 PM
Remember my problem with volume, using Volume+ and such? Well, another problem was that the headphone jack doesn't activate merely by plugging something in; it activated for earphones but not for a car stereo, it needs like a ground loop or something.

Problems solved for $1.69.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/370290546211?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Plug it in, press the button, phone switches on headphone jack until you unplug it. The button is supposed to act as a Send/End button but I don't care, I'm just glad it works to activate the headphone jack.

Now not only can I use my car stereo to listen to music from my phone, I can also use it to crank the volume on a conversation...previously I've had to turn it on speakerphone and hold it up to my ear like it's not on speakerphone and still couldn't hear over wind/engine noise.

I might want to get a different one than I got, though. The mic on it is really awful.

stonehenge
10-10-2012, 10:47 PM
Hmm, could just be the cable that you're using from the stereo to your phone if it works okay with headphones. Mine treats my AUX cable like headphones.

theholycow
10-10-2012, 10:54 PM
Nope, tried plenty of cables, tried FM transmitter, etc...and there's reports from other users with the same phone and with other phones by the same manufacturer. It activates the jack based on electrical detection rather than physical insertion detection.

CM10 (Jellybro) running good so far, doesn't seem any smoother/faster than AOKP, but not slower either. Feature wise I'm fine with the brightness toggle or statusbar. Only thing I have noticed that I didn't like was that you still can't hide the statusbar clock and keep the navbar one.

Yeah 8gb is too small for anyone who wants to use it for movies or lots of the newer 3d games. The only way it would work would be the cloud which isn't for everyone.

I was iffy at first but love my GNex w/ 32gb and no sd. The Internal memory seems faster and can be accessed by the computer and phone at the same time so no mounting and unmounting.

I wish flashing a new rom wouldn't reset the data counter. I want to keep track of it for a few months and see what's using most of my data. Want to attempt to keep it under 2gb. I use wifi almost all the time but still manage to reach around 2.5 all the time and I don't stream anything. O_o

Probably going to go with this ROM soon:

Don't care about the theme (I'd just as soon remove all theme stuff), but DFW space, performance, and battery life improvements.

The theme isn't so bad, the only part I don't like is the font because it looks hard to read when it's smaller (app drawer, some menus). Believe me, some Android themes are BAD. That one is at least simple black with blue. No 3d gradients or colorful shit anywhere. :jester:

So the only issue that may still be in the rom is the battery charging icon. Not a big deal since it's charging fine, just doesn't LOOK like it is.

Haven't paid attention to it in the past and did a full wipe when I went to Jellybro so thats why it reset. Will keep dirty flashing. Probably wouldn't have made it a couple months without flashing anyway :jester:

But if Google releases 4.2 later this month then might have to give in and do a wipe :uhoh:

Rick, Rom Toolbox is an easy way to change fonts if you want to pick something more normal after flashing that Rom. The stock Android font from ICS and newer is Roboto.

What about deleting theme images and fonts and stuff? That's probably all in /system so it wouldn't help save space (at least any space I care about) anyway, right?

I wonder if I can repartition my phone to give less space to /system and more to /data...

Usually when a theme is included like that, it has replaced the stock images so you can't delete it because you'll end up with missing images which will result in FCs or not booting at all. You could try asking the dude to make a stock themed version, may not be all that hard for him to do it. That said, if you don't mind the blue, it probably isn't using up much more space than the stock images so don't be worried about that part.

You can probably repartition but I've never done it. Chris may have more infos on repartitioning.

You can't delete theme images and why would you want to delete fonts? :jester:

:word: if the guy integrated the Theme Engine then you could delete any included themes but in this case the stock images/fonts have been replaced so deleting them = phone no worky

Just want minimal stuff to be functional, want to remove any and all eye candy. Space is the final frontier up in this bitch.

Even if you could, your gain would be minimal.

uninstall that live wallpaper he includes but switching back to the stock theme won't save much space at all since everything is the same resolution and whatnot, just different colors.

Ok, I just see eye candy and immediately think it must have a cost...that's just my nature, reinforced by the need to squeeze every last byte on this phone.

So I just spent a good chunk of time setting up profiles. Work, Home, Night, Car. Setup volumes, vibrate, etc the way I like. I figured if I could get used to switching them when I got in the car, got home, etc then it could be handy.

Well after enabling profiles, I couldn't install anything from the market, it would FC everytime and fail to download

Disabled them and I can install again.

That's what I like.

Doesn't mean I'm not still going to look everywhere for stuff to delete. :roflshrug:

was browsing CMs gerrit and saw where an extremely active member just barely found out you could long press the toggles. He was also the one who ported the toggles to JB :rofl2:
