so how come if i hit a mage that is not wearing any armor with a spell that does 90 damage it only takes off a bit of his health, but if he hits me with a shitty spell that does 50 damage it rapes the fuck out of me?

Yeah. If you do the thieves guild quests there is a bish down there named Tonilia who has $1-2k and the more you restore the guild, the more she has. I think she carries $5k now.
