Cruze Eco-D is supposed to be a diesel, but not much information on them. If I get Jetta TDI, the used market blows. A nice low-mileage 2010ish is only within a couple thousand of a new TDI....but some folks feel the new Jetta quality went downhill to make them cheaper.
I should mention this is something I plan on keeping for a long time, not just a 2-3 year type deal.

Jeff - True. Thats sort of the reasoning I have been leaning away from used private-sale Jettas. Some Jettas are just to finicky about problems. Thus, a new one has the warranty with it.
Rogers - I have been talking to TJ (T.J.K. on GMFS/CGM/etc) about them. He has a '10 Jetta TDI. The mileage would be nice and the reliability they are known for intrigue me. Let alone, they have a little bit of an aftermarket. Don't get me wrong, I love CVs/MGMs/MMs but the MPG is the biggest issue for me. Then again, Matt (matthimself) has been trying to talk me into a Benz CDI or similar diesel. You want to talk about pricey, even used.

I plan on keeping car for a long time, so in my simple mind, the overall costs will pay off.

Jeff - In truck form, diesel is good and thats partially why I want a diesel car. Eventually I want a diesel truck, so in that way, I can have diesel truck and diesel car. In that way, I can justify the costs associated with making my own fuel.
Rogers - 20k on a used car, i lulzed. but whatever.

Not sure about newer VWs but my parents Jetta TDI (01 I think) didn't like biodiesel at all. Was sputtering and dieing on my brother until he refilled it with good diesel.

yes. we have a family friend who has his formulas and mixes down. his cars/trucks include powerstroke ford, diesel beetle, diesel boats, diesel tractor, everything he owns is diesel. he would be willing to give the recipes to me. the initial costs blow, but when compared to a long-term ownership it pans out.

its great as for towing hauling all that good shit. as for daily driving its kinda a headache . biodiesel has its on headaches too its not that convient. diesel cost more or takes forever to make your own plus it causes them clog up gel etc.... basically real diesel and it dont play so nice all the time. maintance is more. drivabilty isnt that great. gotta think you have 3k rpm not 6 or 7 and start/run for shit in cold. i can go on some more. like i said i like it in my truck. car give me gas.
---------- Post added at 06:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:14 PM ---------- an old diesel like a 12 valve detriot idi well run on anything. svo is easy with them.

Cam, if you plan on using biodiesel in a VW, I'd research it well first. After my parents Jetta acted crazy, my brother looked it up and the forum he found was full of people saying not to use it in TDIs. That may not be true for newer ones though, IDK.

they have alot of issues with it so does the duramax. it pretty much kills there fuel filters and all that. cummins is still a old design so it runs like on anything.

even the 24 valves and common rails have little issues. they will run on anything pretty much. idk if its the head design or what.
