Is it like downloading from usenet, where you just download whatever is currently posted, or does old stuff hang around and you can search it for what you want?

It hangs around for sometime. Stuff is hosted on mediafire, rapidshare, megauload. Stuff does expire, and sometimes stuff is hard to find, but its so much easier and faster to get what you want there then dealing with torrent bullsit.
