Windows 10 is for suckers: Windows 10 is new, shiny and best avoided - for now.
I'm waiting at least 6 months before I install W10 probably, but for those that already did on here you might want to look at these: [GUIDE] How to disable data logging in W10. Things to remove/disable in windows 10 |

I installed it in a VM. First thing I did was turn off all dat shet, second was remove all tiles from start menu. Start menu might be tolerable, I might could skip installing Classic Shell.

I still find the "right click start" (Win+X) menu to be the best thing to happen in W8/10
so easy to open cmd, System, Device Manager, Programs/Features, etc quickly. ---------- Post added at 12:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:40 PM ----------

Hi Hi Hi!
Who wants to help me with port forwarding for Wake on LAN with a DD-WRT tp-link wr842nd version 1 router? Note that I am willing to send someone my teamviewer information to gget this done. Spent like 5-6hrs on this the past few days, and my patience is being very tested. Hahaha.

Yeop. The computer is my HTPC/media server, so it doesn't run all the time to save electricity/power.

You should just have to enable wake on magic packet on the NIC of the server
It might have to be enabled in the BIOS as well. I have never messed with it personally tho, so that's all I can help with lol As for the port forwarding, that should be pretty straight forward for that router

Yeah, but for some reason, I am not able to get it to work from outside the LAN. thus, I am thinking there is something i missed in the DD-wrt setup.

Yes, I believe so. I can check later this evening. The previous router build had an exception on ports 7 and 9. Do I need to update exception if the router firmware is different than before?

Nah, its just windows 8.1 Not that its a full-blown server, but its more just a desktop pc serving as my HTPC/plex setup.

In some rare cases, ISPs will block ports. This usually isnt the case though, unless its port 80 or something.

Prior to installing DD-WRT (on the stock tp link firmware) everything worked.
Want to take a look via teamviewer??? will send money via paypal for time/fixes.
