i do love working hazmat trainings for 12 hour days, 5am-7:30pm, and not getting paid anymore than any other graduate assistants...none of the other grad assistants in the dept have to do trainings on the weekend(s) or have to take care of an equipment room, a training center, and office duties/industry/community involvement....the only other position that has anything difficult is the grad assistant doing the placement shit which is basically making emails to business contacts, calling students for interviews, which then pawns shit on me as the info sessions are in the training center...i should at least get more in scholarships for having to do trainings on weekends...i have gotten to the point of where i do not really care about keeping a great gpa because it only counts for your first job, but with my degrees from extremely reputable safety programs...i should be golden...
but... hazmat training coordinator experience > ANY other grad assistant experience... /rant

My undergraduate cumulative gpa = 3.35 or so / 4.0
graduate cumulative gpa so far = 4.0/4.0 this semester its not looking so good for another 4.0... GPA is good for your first job, but then again experience/internships/etc mean a lot too. this summer will be my 3rd internship, plus doing the hazmat training coordinator is like 1.5 years or so trainings and such... i look at it this way, we have a couple other IH majors who may have better GPAs and some various backgrounds (e.g. biology, chemistry, etc). the fact of having higher gpa + BS in chemistry + MS in IH + 1 internship versus lower gpa + MS in IH + BS in safety + training coordinator + 3 internships. when you look at it this way, does the gpa really matter if it only varies by a couple points? chemistry is good background for IH, but you are getting tunnel-vision and limiting yourself on only IH stuff. my MS option is in IH, but a few extra classes are going to be environmental so i have a wide skillset. a wide skillset is great to having various things you can bring to any company. get what i am saying? Some sort of safety in the US Navy is looking tempting...then it would be a great way to get into the safety or hazmat divisions of the FBI. Yes, the FBI has its own safety division and hazmat stuff.
