I spent the day on the same old wild goose chase.
Nobody can help. I got lots of sympathy and no help. I got documented proof that notices went to the wrong address and were returned but that's not good enough to help. I will find out tomorrow if I can get another court date. If not I can pay $410 to get a chance at possibly getting a temporary reinstatement of my license.

Of course they don't describe it as a possible chance, they say if I pay it then that will work, but I can hear the doubt in their voice and I know that the system is fucked up.
If I sent my payment to the wrong address and it got returned, would I be allowed the same self-righteous point of view that they take?

I think I've made some progress. The magistrate has granted me a second court date. I'll have to wait for it to come in the mail but I'll call and pester them weekly just in case it never arrives. The clerk is faxing documents to the RMV that may allow them to temporarily reinstate my license.
I hope the new court date for the 2008 ticket comes before the appeal for the driving with a suspended license.

If not, could you get the date for the suspended license extended? I'm sure you'd have reason to do so with the other court date coming up.

1. Remove plates and VIN from VW
2. Crash VW through court house 3. Run away illegal immigrant style 4. ? 5. Profit DNW prison time...I think I'll just beg for mercy and protest more peacefully after it's all done by telling my story to the media.

Update: I've been calling all week, must have spent 4 or 5 hours on hold so far, no luck with temporary reinstatement. I called the court clerk for the umpteenth time. She'll re-fax, attn to specific person, with my cellphone number asking them to call me, then fax the fax confirmation to me.

I have my temporary reinstatement. I found out on Friday about 30 seconds before I was going to give up, hang up the phone, and go home. I am driving to work.
I'll have a second court date for the 2008 ticket and hopefully because I've arranged for that the criminal driving with a suspended license charge will be dropped when I go to that court date.

Ok, so I finally have my day in court for the original ticket, coming up in a few weeks. I'm considering these defenses:
1. There is no posted speed limit. From the beginning of the road to miles beyond where I was ticketed, there is not a single speed limit sign. 2. Ticket specifies different car. As I understand, this is not a successful defense even if it seems reasonable. While I was going fast, the car in front of me, which matches the description on the ticket better, was also going fast. 3. I have already paid pretty thoroughly and am in financial dire straits. The ticket, IIRC, is for $240. I paid $170 to get towed, hundreds of miles worth of lease miles and gas, $100 for the suspension, and days out of work. Anybody know more than merely how reasonable those things sound?
