You shouldn't need any router disc. If plugging straight from the modem to the computer doesn't work then its probably your modem or the cable lines or something.

If you're plugged directly into the modem without the router, then of course the router software can't find the router.

Router shouldn't need any software anyway. It should do its job independently.

It's connected from the modem to my pc right now, thats the only reason its working

when i plug it into the router i get a signal but i cant connect to it

Should be able to reset the router to default settings, including default password, with a reset button on it.

When you say wireless card, you mean wifi, like what you'd use to connect to the router? That shouldn't interfere. If you mean a card for getting internet from a cellular phone network, I suppose that's possible.

ah yeah i had a model that looked just like that, after a while the wifi would cut out randomly and had to be reset, then it stopped giving out le interwebs completely, even LAN was dead.

You'd think that, being solid state devices, routers would usually just work for a whole lot of years. In actuality, home routers are usually only good for a few years.

So i woke up today turned on my pc and it was giving me the same error shit that the last router did

it shows all 5 bars but then it shows the /!\ sign and says no internet connection

So I'm guessing it's not our router

Click Start -> Run
Type cmd and click <ok>
Type ipconfig /all and hit <enter>

Post IP address, default gateway, DNS servers.

Type ping whatever your gateway's IP is <enter>
Type ping whatever one of your DNS server's IP is <enter>
Type ping 8.8.8.8 <enter>
What are the results of the ping commands?

routers randomly shitting out then fixing themselves isn't that out of the ordinary. But usually the new ones don't do it right away
