put a few hundred bucks on a CC or spend another $4K on a car even if you do car payments its still more money than just paying off a small amount on a CC A lot of people make the mistake of thinking a CC is automatically a bad idea or something that poor people use but always paying cash for things can have your bank account looking like your shoe size rather than a significant amount of moola In the stock market there are guys worth millions that mortgage a 3 or 4 hundred thousand dollar house just because they don't want to take that chunk of money out of the stock market. It looks and feels better to be worth $10,000,000 mil rather than $9,700,000 Also, you have wheels and few other things invested in your car. It wouldn't be the best idea to just give upon the little lady Last edited by BillyJeanKing; 01-18-2015 at 10:11 PM. |

I don't want to give up on it but if it costs the same as the car, it doesn't make sense.
I can take the wheels off, etc if I need to. With low miles and no other issues, I'd prefer yo keep it if possible.

I thought the options were: 1. Kourke's CC idea 2. Leave it parked until money is saved up to repair it. (In the meantime, drive the Tracker.)

Most CC these days have 0% apr for 18 months. My gf and I put all of my gas and purchases over $50-75 on a cc and pay it off at the end of the month, every month. I use one of the cards that you earn free nights at motels. I have gotten over $1500 in free rooms over the last 2 years. Using CC in a responsible way is great, most can't do that though.

Well, that's how I operated until my wife lost her job and I lost my give-a-damn. I kinda ran up a balance for Christmas. I'll pay it off before the 0% intro APR runs out.

It pays to use credit to your advantage.

Looking good, Korkah.
As to using CC or buying a new car. For me, personally I rarely use cash anymore thus I use my Chase CC, but make sure to still use a monthly budget and pay it off every month. From what I understand the trick is to use it, but ensuring no excessive balances are kept on it. The CC was originally received so I could use it in Canada (no intl transaction fees), has the little chip, and then had the 3 month/$3000 spend = 50000 pts offer (needed a new tv, furniture, etc). Thus, it could be advantageous for Wan to use a CC, just ensuring that you can pay off the balance during the month. By no means am I a financial advisor though, so take it fwiw. $0.02
