I didn't watch the video...frosting?
I get bad ingrown toenails. Here's my procedure:
1. Begin a cut, parallel to where its edge should naturally be but centered more, as close to the quick as possible. Do not extend the cut as far back as possible.
2. Grab the sliver with needlenose and peel up, using the cut as a beginning for continuing it until it's torn off under the cuticle and skin.
3. Bleed.
Of course, I spend a bunch of time uselessly fiddling with it first, prying it up out of the skin to give myself a few seconds of relief, packing some Neosporin in like I'm greasing a wheel bearing, etc...
