View Full Version : Rant: Why do people think their shit is worth it's weight in gold?

So, obviously gas is getting stupid high. Well, I've been wanting another mini truck for a long time now.

Add that to the fact that one of the local state troopers (not the one in my sig), decided that he needed the tags off my truck more than I did. So, I haven't been driving it. I've been driving my grandmother's '03 LeSabre we got when she passed away.

Well, since it's kind of the "extra" car, my dad doesn't want me putting the miles on it and wants me out of it. So, long story short, I need to either put tags back on my truck, or finally get me a cheap mini truck beater. Yes, it has to be a truck.

Now, on to my rant.

Why in the FUCK do people think their shit is made of gold? Seriously? Look at this shit.

Those are just the two finest gems I could find. I'm not fucking paying $2k-$3K for your busted ass 20 year old ride. Now, the S10 is clean.... but still. $2500? No. Just no.

What happened to the days of a $500 beater truck?

Jesus, neither of those looks remotely close to being worth what those two people are asking. Shits ridiculous.

They're still around. They're $750-1000 these days. They're mostly not customized, and as they always did, they have dents and problems. Stop looking for a vehicle to be proud of for that price; look for a vehicle that goes. The less desirable it is, the better you'll do.

:read: 4 banger 5 speed rcsb Rangers of any year are the $750-1000 beaters, and they get good FE. You can lower them for free in the rear, and cheap in the front (or free in the front if you don't mind cutting coils).

The S-10 qualifies too but the 2.2 is known for head gasket failure. The Ford 4 banger lasts forever, along with the rest of the truck.

:word: They won't get what they're asking but if you really want them then you'll have to let them brew up for a while.

Actually, I'm surprised. Either market value has risen since the last time I checked or it's different there than it is here.

That's the whole problem. I find ones like I posted, or I find the ones that have no motor/trans and have been sitting for 5 years and people still want $1K for them.

The yellow Mazda is a prime example. That truck is worth $500. The passenger side bedside is caved in. The motor smokes, from what he says is the rings, but it's probably the valve seals (no big deal). And who knows what else has been molested on that thing...

I had a S10 with a 2.2/5spd combo and I should have never gotten rid of it. I miss that thing. Never had a problem out of that truck at all. Maybe I just got a good one.

I'm not even really looking to lower it. I just want something better on gas to beat around in and carry my 4 wheeler or other junk around town. For long trips I have the fullsize.

Yeah... our market seems to be a lot different than most from what I can tell. I guess it doesn't help we're only 50 miles away from D.C. so 80% of the population around here makes over $100K a year because they commute up there every day. Really fucks our local economy up for the little guys like me.

Here's another good example.... 386K miles, $5500. Are you serious? It's clean, it's 4wd, it's not a mini. Ok... I'd pay about $1500 for it considering the mileage. BUT $5500??!! WTF is wrong with people?

its a toyota, the mounts are carved from elifant(sp) tusks and the floor mats are made of babby seal hides, plus they are assembled by leprichans (or wee-people).

i'd definately look for an early 90's ranger with the indestructable SOHC 2.3 and the mazda 5 speed. The GM ratards always overvalue their stuff

That Toy Yoda is priced 10x as much as it's worth. That's nucking futs. Anyway don't expect great fuel economy, it's about as heavy as those T100s could get...a little bigger and heavier than a 4.0 4x4 slushbox Ranger, PLUS it's lifted. At least it's missing some weight from the bumper and tailgate.

Anyway you can cut Toyota right out of your search, market value is inflated by the logo.

Yeah Toyota really hasn't been in my search at all. That was just an example of how people around here think. It blows my mind. I mean, by some of these standards, my '93 Cherokee with 100K miles is worth about $10K.

Pretty much been sticking to S10, Mazda, Nissan, and Rangers. Something will turn up eventually.
